An All Time Favorite On Our Homestead! Oh, It Is So Good!

in #life7 years ago

I make these all the time and the grandkids and even the big kids love them. I make two batches and they will be gone the next day. Then I have everyone asking me when I am going to make some more. Here is how I and many others I am sure, make classic no bake cookies.

I get everything ready because when they are hot you have to move kinda quick or they do not turn out so well. So I get the pan I will be using and I put 2 cups of sugar in it, along with 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa. Then I cut up a stick of butter (1/2 cup) in small pieces and put it in the pan. I get the 1/2 cup of milk ready but do not add it to the pan yet. I go and get 3 cups of quick oats in a bowl and 1/2 cup of peanut butter ready to put in when it comes off the heat. The bottle of vanilla extract is close by so I can get it in too. Now with everything ready I put the pan on the stove and turn it on to medium-high and add the milk and stir it all together.

You let it come to a good rolling boil and let it boil one full minute while stirring the whole time. It needs the full one minute of boil time or your cookies will not set right and they will be runny. I set a timer and make sure it does boil for one minute. I cannot express that step enough.

I then pull it off the heat and stir in the 1/2 cup of peanut butter and vanilla extract till it is combined then the oats are stirred in and made sure they are coated well. I used a cookie scoop to scoop it out onto wax paper covered pans to cool. There is a few that will be eaten as soon as they can cool off to the touch. LOL.

The recipe I use is,
1/2 cup (115 grams) butter, cut into pieces
2 cups (400 grams) granulated sugar
1/2 cup (120ml) milk
1/4 cup (20 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup (125 grams) of creamy peanut butter
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
3 cups (300 grams) quick cooking oats

Like I said before be sure to gather everything together and have it ready to go. Measure everything out and line two baking pans with wax or parchment paper.
Put the sugar, butter, milk and unsweetened cocoa powder in a pan and start it going on medium-high heat stirring often and bring it to a boil for one minute (60 seconds).
Remove it from the heat and add the peanut butter and the vanilla extract to the mixture and make sure it is combined well, then add the oats and make sure they are combined well also.
Drop them on the prepared baking sheets lined with wax or parchment paper, I used a 2 tablespoon cookie scoop. Allow them to cool and enjoy.

They might not look real pretty but they taste so good. Thanks for reading my posts and I hope you enjoy making and eating these cookies as much as I and my family did, it is an old recipe but it never gets old. Hope everyone has a great night/day, whatever it is in your neck of the woods.

All those ingredients are so yummy, anything made with them has to be good! I'll have to try this with the kiddos :)

It is good! You have to be fast when the sugar and stuff come off the heat it will set pretty fast.

They are very good. Most of the time I make them and might get one. LOL.

I love these and my family reacts the same as yours. We call them "dad's mom's cookies" because she had the recipe handwritten in the front of one of her cookbooks. I think her recipe has no milk added tho.

I have never seen a recipe for no bake cookies without milk. There may just be one, I wonder how they would turn out, I bet kinda dry.

Those sound super yummy @basicstoliving my Dad made similar cookies when we were young, as you said they were gone as soon as they had cooled down.

Yes, they were! The grandkids tell us they are good for them because they have oats in them. LOL

I hope it very delicious. Thanks for sharing. For more recipes follow me.
