Waiting on the Red Wolf Moon

in #featheredfriday7 years ago

As most people know by now Sunday the 20th was the night of the full moon eclipse. They called it a Wolf Moon. Not just a Wolf Moon, but a Super Blood Wolf Moon according to EMILY PETSKO and her Report - Mark Your Calendars: A Rare Super Blood Wolf Moon Is Coming in January 2019 from the 26th of December in 2018. Hype or not people seemed to be excited by the eclipse, at least here in Alaska and a few other places. My picture attempt was a poor try, it was to be quite honest a very cold night.

Fortunately we were out doing some picture taking earlier in the day. The day started out pretty nice, cold, yes, but nice anyways. Of course like the start to many days, the weather did cloud over, and we were fortunate to still be able to see a little bit of the moon that night.

As you can see our Eagle friends were in the trees waiting for the excitement also. These two shots were from the 20th, at 1:11 pm. A mostly cloud free start to the day, there was some fog over the inlet, but it had not moved inland yet.

Here our feathered friend seems to be looking around just enjoying the day, sort of like how my wife and I were just enjoying the day.

I think he caught wind of his picture being taken as he turned to look almost directly at me and my camera. Speaking of camera here is the obligatory blob, yes I took the picture with my Nikon D7500 camera and a 300mm zoom lens. I think I continue to improve, and am looking forward to the arrival of some of the spring birds. I did see a black capped chickadee today out the window, so it is getting closer to having a larger selection of birds to snap pics of.

My picture attempt didn't really turn out either but it was from a smartphone after all.

It was quite an interesting sight.

Thanks for visiting my page and commenting @bashadow ... I followed you here thinking you were that guy who was just in Poland??? Maybe you are; what the hell do I know, I'm old and senile.

Anyway, I spent some time in Alaska many years ago about 200 miles south of the Arctic Circle...is it still cold in that neck of the woods, or has climate change turned it into a tropical paradise?

I 'did' get to witness the 'Aurora Borealis' a beautiful, wondrous sight.

Well today it was 40 degrees, and raining. So it is back to wearing the shoe spikes to stop from falling on my ass. 3 days ago it was zero degrees outside. I was ould have to say over the last thirty years we have had a few of these odd warm winters. It is just hard to keep up with the temperature shifts and extremes.

Lovely eagles looking down from that tree. It seems to have noticed you in that second shot! Thanks for posting in Feathered Friday! voted & resteemed :)

Yep, it does seem you were caught in the act! :) Great shots!

Nice work! I don't think I've ever filmed an eagle yet that I can remember! A lot of hawks and falcons and birds of prey, though.. Would be cool to capture an eagle!

We have an almost can't miss spot for getting eagle pictures. Crows and Ravens are easy to find also, My wife got a really good shot of an Owl in a tree in our yard, I have only seen it a couple of times. Looking forward to spring and more birds, I hope to get a nice shot of the magpie, like my wife got also one of these days, but they are such flighty birds.
