Why We Left the United States
Many people ask me why we left the U.S., so I will try and give you the short answer. My wife is originally from Germany and when we were first married she was still living here. After I graduated college we felt there were more opportunities for me to get a job, so we decided to give it a try in the U.S.. Well, four years later we were a family of five with three kids (Twins and a toddler) all under the age of three, all in diapers, and all not sleeping through the night. It was tough for us. I was struggling and my wife was feeling really alone away from here family living in a foreign country. Once the realestate market was right we sold our house and decided it was time to go.

My son standing on the northern shores of the Baltic Sea. Our new home.

If you ever think that it’s a good idea to put three babies on an eight hour flight let me tell you, you are in for a hell of a ride. Thank the gods my brother was with us so we were each able to take one kid, but it was a nightmare! I think my two year old son screamed a good six out of eight hours. I have never been more hated in my entire life, and I’ve been to war!

This year has really flown by. It’s been hard adjusting to a new land and language, but for the most part the German people have been really welcoming and helpful. My wife’s family has been there for us every step of the way and luckily she was able to find a good job after only two months of being here.

Not a bad view from the backyard!

One of the best things about this whole move is I was able to discover Steemit! There are days when I am just so exhausted, I cant speak another word of a foreign language, and I just want to give up. Luckily we have this wonderful community of Steemit folks who are always willing to chat and send a positive thought your way. That is why I want to do this giveaway in celebration of life in a new county and on a new platform. Both of which I plan to stay!

On to the Giveaway!

Hi @balticbadger
Hmm nice giveaway topic. I friend of mind just got into Germany last night (for his second degree) and on escorting Him to the airport I realized I wouldn't dear leave my country (Nigeria) to live elsewhere permanently i mean. The reason is simple. Aside from the fact that my country is quite dramatic with issues and all... We are gifted with great weather, good atmospheric conditions and contrary to popular beliefs we are quite free here. There's a whole lot of limitations living as a foreigners in another country. I can't trade that for the freedom I experience in Nigeria. One thing I will miss is family and friends but asides that I'll miss the busy roads, the harsh sun, the smelly gutters, the political hassles, the traffic and I will miss the food (the ones we swallow not chea) and ill miss the love In my country.

That sounds really nice, your country. Growing up in America, unfortunately, we have no real education or knowledge of African countries. At least I didn't learn about it in school, all we hear about is the bad stuff on the news, which I am certain is only a tiny percent of what goes on there. That sure was nice of you to bring your friend to the airport, maybe you can visit him? :) thanks for commenting you are number 4 in the contest good luck!

Lol. I will soon enough. Let's see if I might like germany

I miss German bread in Panama ;-)

Yet nowhere has bread as good as Germany. I live across the street from the bakery :) you sir are number 1 for the contest.

Upvote,Very nice Post :) i will miss the Very nice food #allTheTimeEating
Keep it up

Thank you very much! You are number 2!

Your personal stories make for good stories. Or rather you make them sound good. I'm just happy to follow you and I hope you have more WW II discoveries.

It is a tough question, the one about leaving one's country. I never considered leaving Bulgaria for good, although what looks like half the population my age already did. I will definitely miss my friends. I really feel in good company(ies) here. Otherwise, new locations I actually love discovering and getting to know.

Good luck and health to you and yours :)

Thank you very much! I have never been to Bulgaria but I have heard it's a beautiful place and the people are really in touch with their past. I think that is important for a people. Maybe one day I will be fortunate enough to visit. Thanks again for the kind words. You are number 3 for the challenge.

I feel for both you and your plane mates during your flight with the baby. Nobody was happy I'm sure.

You should start to see some upvote from SBI in about a week. I almost have enough saved up for another share.

Awesome! Thanks again. Yeah, I am flying back to the states for a wedding next month just me and my son so I hope that goes better. But he is a little older now and I think he will be fine. You are number 5 for the contest. Good luck!

Pizza King of Indiana seriously I can't move from the US cause though they will ship to any state they don't ship to foreign countries. I could only move if I could take a franchise with me.

Then you have their breadstix they are the best freaking breadstix ever they have a dill butter spread across them so good. When I moved from my home state for a few years I would have them shipped to me in dry ice a couple of times a year. When people move away from this area the first place they eat when they get back is Pizza King.

Honestly, for the food, I miss taco bell the most!! Nacho cheese!!! Ahhhh thanks for stopping by! Your number 6 for the contest!

Indiana not India lol and gross taco bell😮 but we all have that one thing others think is gross.

howdy sir balticbadger! well sir...I don't know, I've never been to another country or I'd probably have a better idea. If it wasn't an English speaking country I'm sure at first at least, it would be the language issue and I would miss being able to talk to everyone in a language I could understand.
great post, very high quality and interesting!

Yes the language thing is hard sometimes when we had visitors i from the us last month I think they were mostly annoyed that I wouldn't stop talking, but it's just different when you are speaking to people from your homeland! Well i wish you luck! You are lucky number 7!

thank you sir balticbadger!
