My 2019 travel summary from Google
Today I received an email from Google about my travel summary of 2019. It is true that I have turned on my location history and shared the information with Google. I don't mind google tracking me with my location information. But I was really amazed to see a report that provided me today. It provided a neat summary of the places I visited. The summary emails had multiple cards in the layout making it interesting to view. I've taken a screenshot of it and presented below.
I was initially thinking that the report was based on the trip that I recently went for my honeymoon. But after having a deeper look, I realized that the report was the whole year 2019 and just because my recent visit was a highlight it was presented in the report. This is the first time I'm traveling to Pune and visiting so many places there. I have been to Pune once earlier but my visit didn't even last for even a full day and it was just an official trip. This time it was indeed a great experience to travel to Pune and visit many places.
It looks like I have traveled so much in Car which is over 13,000 km. I guess my motorbike rides are also considered as car travel by google. I understand that it is hard for Google to differentiate between motorbike rides and car rides. But I'm sure I would have even covered more than 13,000 km and definitely a lot more than 14 km by walk. I travel a minimum of 35 km every single day to my office. 35 X 356 itself gives 12,000 km so technically 13,000 is not right. And, by the way, I also walk almost 2 kilometers every single day. It should either be a calculation mistake by Google or my phone that is not syncing my location data properly with Google.
There is a problem with the above stats as well. I did not visit Wai and Melpettai but instead, I traveled through those places and it was added to my timeline. When I was traveling towards Mahabaleshwar, Shirdi and Lonavala there is a possibility that these places would have been there in the middle and Google might have added it to my timeline as if I visited all those places.
The stats shown above are perfect and I did visit all these places and have a good time there. Good to see the above stats.
The dates of my trip are correct but I don't know if I visited all the places that are mentioned above. But it is a good thing that Google is able to give me so much data in summary.
I'm sure this is not accurate but it was fun seeing these stats from Google. I guess everyone should enable these stats and see how it looks. If you have turned on your location, I believe the timeline data in Google will be already available. You can check this information out.
