What was your dream job when you were a kid? Have you followed your dream?
The dreams that we usually have are always variable. The dream that I had when I was kid is not longer a dream for me now. The true fact is that it keeps changing and we have to accept it. I'm someone with lots of interests. My area of interests keep changing based on new exposures that I get. Today something that attracts me a lot changes tomorrow. But however I have managed to have some long term dreams as well in my life. In the path of my life, I have had several dream job intentions in my mind. I would like to describe about a few.
Teacher
I still remember how many times I used to say this to everyone when I was young. I always wanted to become a teacher. I keep this as my top dream because I still have the same intention. Even today I feel like quitting my current job and start teaching in a school. The reason is because, I like mentoring people from young age. Teaching has always been my area of interest from a very young age. Maybe that is the reason why I do the same in my office as well. I have been able to mentor my teammates and make them excel in their work.
I would say teaching was always my dream job and I always wanted to go for a teaching profession. My friends are the victim for my thirst. Whenever I meet my friends and have a get together, I get nice opportunities to teach them good things and new things that I learn. The only advantage that I have is that my friends are good listeners. They make me talk and listen to all my lectures. If I get a chance and it at all I find a way to get a passive income to do a living, I'm still willing to chase my dream and become a teacher in a school. I would be more than happy if I get a chance to join my own school where I studied.
Animation and editing
During my college days, I was so passionate about animation and editing. For the short films we used to do, I usually take care of the sound and video editing part. I even attended few workshops to understand some basics about animation, editing etc. I wanted to get a job where I can spend time doing video editing and animation which was one of my passion. Nowadays I have completely lost touch and even if I get some pet projects in office where I'm requested to do a short editing work, I really suck at it.
Get paid for travelling
This is still one of my dream even today. I always wanted to travel a lot to so many places. Travelling always admires me and especially trekking and hiking is really fascinating for me. I have done quite a few treks as well but they have been both terrible as well as amazing experience. I would like to have a job where I just get paid for travelling to various places. After completing my college, I was even thinking about becoming a photographer just to get a place in BBC or NGC to travel to various places and take photos. Of course I didn't take any positive step towards this dream. So it is all gone now. Even today even though I work in an IT company as a developer, I really want to travel to many places to visit people with different culture and tradition. I don't even mind going alone to place.
Musician
Vocal singing is not my thing but I always had interest towards my traditional music and I used to be good in playing flute when I was in my school. I was part of the band troop playing flute, clarinet and saxophone. It is still a dream for me to get a saxophone and continue my passion towards music. My parents gave a great opportunity for my sister to learn music and she is now very good in music and today she is taking music classes. I shouldn't blame my parents but they even tried doing the same for me by sending me to violin classes to learn Violin but it did not work well. I didn't pay enough attention at that point in time to learn that skill. But I will definitely buy a saxophone soon and fulfill this part of my dream.
Get paid for playing games
Oh my god. How did I miss this? Games attract me so much. Even though I'm not a great professional in playing games, I'm always passionate about playing strategy games. During my school days, I used to cut my tution classes to go to my friend's house and play games. I have spent lots of time in my life on gaming. Even though it is a fantasy world and nothing there is real, I have always been interested to play games. At one point in time, I was even looking forward to get into gaming industry as some kind of test engineer who will test out games by playing games. I heard from few people that I don't really have to be a coder and gaming developer. I can get a decent pay by becoming a beta tester in gaming industry. So this was again a dream job for me once upon a time.
If I continue this topic, it will definitely go forever. I would like to conclude here saying that out of all the above mentioned dream jobs, I prefer becoming a teacher in my life. People dream for a life but not everyone end up having a life that they really dreamt about. I'm sure at some point, I will definitely look forward to leave what I'm doing currently, leave things I hate doing now and completely follow my dream. Hope the day comes soon.
