MXGP - The news nobody wanted to hear
News has just come in that current points leader Jeffrey Herlings has been injured during a practice track incident and will surely miss out on this weekends race at the MXGP of Lombardia.
The red plate holder, who is leading the championship by sixty two points currently, crashed during an open training session in his home country in the Netherlands. It does not look great for the Bullet as it's a possible fractured or broken collarbone. This would rule Herlings out for this weekends race at the very least and also put some doubt into how long his points lead could last if he goes under the knife.
To make matters even worse, the next round is the MXGP of Lombardia at Ottobiano, Italy which is Cairoli's home country and he always shines there! This is not what fans wanted to see and after their intense battles the last few weeks it's a huge blow for anyone who loves this sport. It does however make it very interesting in the points...
KTM Red Bull Factory Racing have released a brief statement:
Jeffrey Herlings
KTM Red Bull Factory Racing Team
"MXGP FIM World Championship leader Jeffrey Herlings will have surgery to repair a break to his right collarbone after a crash while practicing at Berghem in Holland today. The 23 year old is scheduled for a procedure at renowned surgeon Dr Claes’ clinic in the next few hours to fix a fracture near a plate that was inserted for a previous injury. It is extremely likely that the winner of 8 from 10 Grands Prix this season will miss this weekend’s Lombardia round at Ottobiano in Italy but then has a two week break before the Grand Prix of Indonesia on July 1st."
