Kadaugan Festival
Mactan is a very historical place in Cebu, Philippines. Every 27th of April, The filipino's in mactan held a festival every year to commemorate the victory of the native warriors led by lapu-lapu over the Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan. The festival is a celebration of the island's victory over foreign invaders and the preservation of its culture and heritage.
The festival is a colorful and lively celebration that brought many peoples together. The streets are covered in decorations and streamers and it's is filled with the sounds of music. In the day of the festival, People of Mactan including foreigners will gather at the main square of mactan shrine to watch as they recreate the Battle Between lapu-lapu and Magellan. Dressed in traditional costumes, the performers acted out the battle scene with great energy and enthusiasm, complete with the clashing of swords and the beating of drums.
Well for me since I was born and raised in mactan I often go to mactan shrine and I would say the kadaugan is such a wonderful festival to watch. The atmosphere is lovely, exciting and Inviting. The festival features a lot of various activities such as the Street dancing, parade and the food festival that features local delicacies and cuisines. But for me the main highlight of the festival was the Street dancing competition, Because that is where different groups showcase their talents in dancing and their creativity of making wonderful costumes.
As the night goes on, The crowd cheers and screams in delight as the fireworks are lighting up in the sky. it is a night with great joy and celebration, A time where people of mactan come together to honour and remember the bravery of their ancestors
So the kadaugan became a beloved tradition in the Philippines, It is a day where people honored and cherished the memory of our brave ancestors who fought for our independence and freedom
wow! That's a great festival you had. My municipality celebrated its 105th founding anniversary just a day after yours but I was not able to go even once. Mind you it was a wee-long celebration and it hurts so much
That's very unfortunate, there's always next time perhaps you can visit lapu-lapu for a change it would really be an extraordinary experience.
I would love to, pero ka lapit nag di ko napuntahan sis. Daming obstacles sa mga gusto kong gawin eh
