Character designs for a new project

in #steem-cartoon8 years ago

Hey guys I've been working on some character designs.
Let me show you what's going on!

A few years ago I had this idea to start a "world building" project. A collection of illustrations depicting a fantasy world, along with accompanying texts and maybe even short stories. I made multiple attempts but never followed through with the idea. My biggest hurdle in the whole endeavor was the writing part. It's easy for me to find ideas for characters, beasts and locations, but when it comes to writing the text, I spend too much time making it perfect. It's obvious to me, that my writing is not great but I'm unable to get it to the point where it's OK. So, I unconsciously create roadblocks and convince myself that I should do other stuff.

The idea hasn't left me, despite my frustrations. I still think this is something I need to do.
So I'm starting again! and this time I will document the process.
I'll be taking one step at a time and showing you the process so I can receive feedback.. I want to create something that others find enjoyable, and I can't do this without you.
Let me know your honest opinions as we go down this path.

Enough with that though. This is Wendel Lillypickle, a young frog man who needs to get away from his boring life in the swamp, so he can see the world!
Below are all my sketches for this character.

I really like No 7, but he doesn't look too young!

No 9 is also good but too dopey

wen_005.jpg
No 10 has got the right outlook on life

These two are the last ones I made and probably best ones

Did you notice the back pack he's wearing? I've made some individual designs for it.

There's a reason for the leaves covering his upper body. I'll tell you why in another post

Thanks for taking a look at these!
Let me know your opinions and stay tuned for more stuff soon!

Cool characters 👌🏻🍄

Thanks mate.

This kind of talent blows my mind. As someone who can't draw to save themselves I am always in awe of those who can.

Thanks, those are very kind words.. I think it all comes down to constant practice. There a re way better artists than me out there, that even I think I will never reach their skill... But in the end it's just about having a good time and travelling your own road.

I think all art is a constant learning curve. If you think you know it all you're probably done and should look for a desk job :)
