AFTER going through a series of rigorous assessments, the jury finally chose three winners of the 2023 North Aceh Tourism Logo and Tagline Design Competition. The winners were all creative young talents from Central Aceh, Lhokseumawe, and North Aceh.

Since it opened on 2 – 23 February and was extended to 28 February 2023, the committee received 27 logos and taglines from 27 participants. Of these, the jury chose the top five who were required to make presentations online.

"From the presentation, we explored various aspects, starting from the meaning of the logo, originality, to the message to be conveyed," said the Head of the North Aceh Regency Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office and chairman of the jury, Saifuddin S. STP, MSP in Lhoksukon, Saturday (4/3/2023).

Saifuddin admitted that it was not easy to choose the winners because all the logos entered had their advantages and disadvantages. Previously, the committee had conveyed the terms of reference which became the basis for the participants to produce their works.

"But the participants did a deep dive through small-scale research in order to produce work that is in line with the tourism potential in North Aceh," he added.

Of the 27 logos and taglines submitted, the jury finally chose the work of Angga Dwi Syahputra from Central Aceh as first place, second place went to Heru Tesar Ichsan from Lhokseumawe, and third place went to Romi Amrizal from North Aceh.

For this achievement, Angga Dwi Syahputra is entitled to receive IDR 5 million in cash, Heru Tesar Ichsan gets IDR 3 million, and Romi Amrizal IDR 2 million.

The logos and taglines that made it into the top five have uniqueness and aesthetics, but some do not represent the seven leading destinations in North Aceh or have a low level of originality because they adopted similar themes from outside, both from Aceh and from other regions in Indonesia.

"There were also participants who were able to design logos philosophically and post-mo. The judges were amazed," added another judge, Dr. Saifuddin Dhuhri, Lc, MA.

According to the member of the Aceh Adat Council (MAA) of North Aceh, the issue of originality is an important aspect in the assessment, in addition to eight other aspects including creativity, relevance, simplicity, visual strength, balanced and proportional composition, uniqueness, interest, and a strong message.

"The five logos in the top five have the advantage of a combination of several of these elements, so the jury, which consists of various educational and professional backgrounds, must consider various aspects before deciding on the winners," added Saifuddin Dhuhri who is also a lecturer at IAIN Lhokseumawe.

Apart from Saifuddin S.STP, MSP and Dr. Saifuddin Dhuhri, Lc, MA, the other three judges were Yulizar S Sos, M.Sc (Head of Culture Department of Education and Culture of North Aceh), Muhammad Arhami S.Si, M.Kom (Lecturer of Polytechnic Negeri Lhokseumawe), as well as Ayi Jufridar, SE, MSM (journalist and writer). The five judges were assisted by Iwan Masni and a number of other support staff.

Committee Chair, Umar Ali, S. Sos, MAP, said the winners and all participants would receive an award certificate from the North Aceh Regency Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office. "We plan, the prize will be handed over directly by the North Aceh Regent. We will tell you the time later," he said.

The committee and jury hope that the winners and participants can be involved in becoming part of the creative team of the North Aceh Regency Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office in various programs.

“We are proud that the winners are young talents from various regions. This is proof that the young generation of Aceh is very creative and hopefully has concern for the development of regional tourism," concluded Umar.[]
