What happened to smartwatches?

Starting in 2015, smartwatches were a huge trend and every company had started developing their version. They started out as fitness trackers. Samsung had been manufacturing the successful Gear Fit and LG had their own Fit band. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few others, but you get the point.

The start of the smartwatch trend began with Pebble. Pebble showed people the functionality that can be put on a watch and grew from releasing their products on Kickstarter. When companies saw a large demand for these, everyone joined in. Apple, LG, Asus, Huawei, Google, Samsung, and Sony. The Moto 360 had grabbed the attention of everyone. Its success was primarily due to how well they designed it. The watch had a simple round (compared to some square smartwatches) face with almost no bezels and it worked seamlessly with all Android phones.
After a year or so, companies were still developing new watches, but no one seemed to buy them anymore. Maybe it was the price tag, maybe limited features, or people just didn't see the point in them. But the trend went out as fast as it came in. The only watch I've noticed now is the Apple Watch. I'm not sure why I'm still seeing it when Android users have the same functionality built into their watches too.
I could see smartwatches staying in the market for a while, but I believe there needs to be something unique about each to really differentiate them from the others. Right now, most watches are just an accessory to list your notifications or use as a fitness tracker which costs a couple hundred.

Apple fanboys will always gravitate to Apple products because of them being stylish. But i agree with you, the popularity of smartwatches mostly seems to have fizzelled out. I still want to get another Moto 360 again though. I used to own one.
