What happened today

Today is my third day of beginning a new life in Kuala Lumpur. Not many people know about it and it's by design, for personal reasons i want to keep the news on the down low until i've actually settled here with an idea of what i'm supposed to do. For starters, one of the main reason moved here is to try at the opportunity of making use of the networking opportunities found here, KL undoubtedly has a larger cryptocurrency scene than Miri, Sarawak, where i come from.

After taking a last couple of days to get over the fact that I've flown a one-way flight with no return ticket. I took @bitrocker2020's advice on going to all the events i humanly can. Anything with a blip of networking opportunity i should go and at the very least take a Steepshot selfie, can't hurt right?

So there I went checking on Eventbrite to see the nearest crypto-related event. And i found one. Happening on the same, about 6 LRT stops away, and free with food served. Sounds great! Only problem though, something is super fishy with the title of the talk. Nevermind, if it turns out to be another of those coin shilling event, i can perhaps salvage my time and try introduce Steem to other participants who wasted their time like i did.

So I took the train, which is a thoroughly pleasant experience for me. I really like the sound of it accelerating, could be my personal ASMR thing. And I arrive the place.. I suspicion was quickly confirmed though, because the first thing i was on the event office is this logo.

Those of you who knows, KNOWS.. but in case you are lucky enough to not have been exposed to BitClub Network, here's a little advice.. Bitcoin Mining is no longer worth it if you're doing at an enterprise scale. you are competing against large Chinese holding firms who dealt with the US Department of Defense to Convert a US Defense Data Center into a mining farm. Imagine the scale of the farm when a Chinese company go all the way out to sign a deal with the US, even at current political climate. You're not gonna ROI like what Bitclub promised you.

There is another problem too, the event starts at 5pm, I took the picture at 5:13pm. The whole place is still dark, no one inside. Since i'm here already then lets just wait. I think i was pretty patience when i've had enough of it by 6pm. Dear Event organizer, you've scammed me of my time.

All is not lost though, there is still light outside so i head to the nearest mall and look around the place. One thing I still can't get used to though, even at 6:25pm, it's still so bright out. I cannot brain it. Where i come from sunset start from 6:15pm. I have to eventually get over it i guess.

Sunday mall crawl check.. Do you know there's at least 70 over malls in this region? I tried to count them on the wikipedia list but i gave up. KL people seems to love malls.

So with the day passed and an event failed, i settle the night with a drink i havent had since my childhood time.

Man I admire your courage. This sounds like a wonderful new chapter. I look forward to reading about all the events you make it to.

thanks.. it is my plan to chronicle and talk about all the events i go to for posterity as well as maybe to show up on Google when people search for the event?

I have been going to many in Dublin this year.

Earlier in the year I was researching at the beginning of the week all that were on each week and making a blog about the interesting ones for the week. I also wrote about the ones I attended.

ooh i'll take a read at them!

It's interesting now how there are so many meetups around this space. It's the same here in Kuala Lumpur too, so many events.

Great story and good for you for putting yourself out there and trying to network. It's fun as a reader to learn about your new spot and see some pics. I've never known anyone from there so I'm psyched to see some more pics.

thanks for the appreciation! that means i have to post more photos now do i? hahahaha

koyakz bitclub!

oooo we must meet for mamak sometimes definitely, as they say, for the steepshot! hahaha

Welcome to this part of the city!!
Too bad it's a scam!

Even if it's an event that promotes a scam, as a Steemian i can turn it to my benefit. But if the event itself is a scam, then haih, time wasted.

True, don't understand what was the point for them to even promote it...

Downline money ma... Bitclub use mlm method what. They call it "refferal bonus" la.. but lol who they trying to fool.

Not you definitely!

Hahahah hopefully that stays true. Scams nowadays are becoming smarter and smarter, no one can be sure they will never fall for one.

That's very true!

Welcome to kuala lumpur @awesomianist . If there is any event that we can join please do tell 😊👍🏻.

Oooo i certainly will.. perhaps we can discuss it in Teammalaysia Discord Server. You can always find events in Meetup.com and eventbrite, even Facebook events.

Great story. I comend you on taking the risk to do something to improve your life. Im sorry that the company turned out to be a scam. There are alot of scams in tge crypto space. Thanks for being brave.

It was unexpected to be sure. Here in Malaysia it's gotten to a point where the average Facebook-ing uncles and aunts will only hear about scam coins first before they even know about Bitcoin. It's definitely worrisome how scams are so prevalent.

I sometimes wonder what good can be done if all the values in the scams can go towards the devs in real coins and make the tech better.
