Each of us are individual beings, with our own reasoning ability and for that reason we have goals drawn according to it. However, we are also collective beings, and we need to relate to other people.

In this post we will talk about teamwork and its benefits, in addition to developing it in different scenarios such as: steemit, in our homes, in our place of work and we end with a biblical passage where this point is exemplified.

As I wrote, we all have individual goals, but indistinctly of our individual goals, (unless you are a castaway on a desert island) we all belong to a family, community, organization, company, team and are part of a puzzle.

Certainly belonging to a team is beneficial for everyone involved, since it brings more satisfaction to achieve individual goals, for the sake of collective goals, and we also exercise respect for other ideas than ours.

Working as a team is an expression of solidarity and sense of belonging to it, sharing values, attitudes and rules of conduct established by its members.

Benefits of Teamwork

Among the advantages of working as a team we have:

• The final work is of higher quality: this because the decisions are made by agreement, and the quality criteria are more demanding and varied.

• Less work: when tasks and responsibilities are shared among all team members.

• Guidelines and decisions are better understood: when there are several members in the team, each one is support from the other in understanding the guidelines and tasks to be carried out.

• Problems are tackled with different points of view: thanks to the present individuals, solutions are sought from different perspectives, than combined and put into practice.

• Response times are reduced: By sharing the different tasks, they can be done simultaneously.

Teamwork in Steemit

Steemit is imperative to be integrated into one or several communities, this topic was developed in my last publications (Here the last of the 3 post of the series "Introduction to Communities" (In Spanish)). However, it is not enough just to enter the communities, it is necessary that when you join these communities you do it with a motivation to work as a team.

Make your talents, knowledge and opinions available to the community, always with respect and humility. In the same way, take advantage of all the potential that your community partners have, absorb all the knowledge you can and be grateful for it.

Communication is paramount, try to get out of all your doubts, if it is a community where it is worthwhile to be, surely they will give you their help with kindness and respect. However, try not to ask questions where you have not made the least effort to find the answer, remember "GIYF" (Google is your friend), after this step and still have the doubt, go to the friendly experienced members of the communities.

Teamwork in the Family

In our families it is essential to work as a team, each member of the family must understand what their role is among the different tasks that must be performed daily in the home. When this does not happen, family problems begin to appear, because the different tasks are accumulated or a single person is overloaded with work (usually the mothers who take charge).

It is necessary that the tasks in the home be distributed among the family members according to their capacity, for example we can not give the responsibility to a child to obtain the economic resources for the house, because it does not have the age nor the capacity of have a paid job, but if we can give you the responsibility to keep your room tidy, for example.

Each activity is an opportunity to strengthen ties between family members, because although a certain activity is the responsibility of one person, the rest of the family can help and collaborate with the person in charge. And this brings as a consequence a loving empathy between the accomplices. A practical example occurs between brothers of close ages, when you give a responsibility to one, the other brother helps in carrying out the task, in order to finish more quickly the same, and to be able to take advantage of the time to play.

Teamwork in an Organization

The majorities of the organizations when interviewing new employees, ensure that one of the qualities possessed by the potential member of their payroll, is having the ability to work as a team.

It can be that the activity can be done in a face-to-face manner in an office in the main headquarters of a company, or you can do it from your home, dressed in your pajamas. But always teamwork is present, especially at the beginning and end of the task.

At the beginning to organize the work, the general and specific objectives, the response times, in order to distribute responsibilities and workload. It may be that during the activity follow-up meetings are needed to verify progress in the tasks, and if necessary, make changes. And especially at the end, to unite all tasks, make a general report and assemble the entire project. As you can see, it takes synchronization, planning, solidarity and synergy among the members, this is nothing more than teamwork.

It is very difficult to have a partner in our office who does not like teamwork, because it generates discomfort on a personal and professional level. The people who do not work in a team are very selfish and self-centered, when they share their knowledge they only do so with the intention of demonstrating their intellect. In addition, professional distrust is latent, due to the lack of knowledge about the progress made in the tasks under this person's responsibility.

Biblical Teaching

In the bible we also find examples of teamwork, today I remember a passage that fits perfectly for this topic.

In 2 Samuel 10: 1-19 (If you want to read the biblical quote, click here). It tells the story of two brave brothers (Joab and Abishai), members of the army of Israel (The braves of David).

The bible narrates that a people rose up against Israel, the Ammonites, and they hired mercenaries, the Syrians, to strengthen their army.

The Ammonites were placed at the front to attack the army of Israel, and the Syrians were placed in the rear. When Joab, the General of the army saw this, he took part of his army and positioned himself to face the Syrians and gave his brother Abishai the rest of the army to stand against the Ammonites. And he tells his brother:

- “If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee. Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good”

Then the Syrians flee, and then the Ammonites. At the end of the story the army of Israel pursues them and wins the battle.

What I want to highlight when using this biblical passage, was the teamwork between the two brothers, and the leadership capacity of Moab. Communication was paramount in this episode and to be clear about the task that each one had.

Each one, along with the part of the army that accompanied him, had the responsibility to fight and defend his position, however, they also had the agreement to support the other, if for some reason his task was difficult. That is teamwork, fulfill all your strength your responsibility, and also be aware of helping if necessary to others to meet theirs, for solidarity, companionship and / or affinity, but in the end you know that if your task is not fulfilled your work will also be compromised.

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up
Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10
