Cultural divergence in fast food acquisition: Or damn, its hard to get a burger in Tokyo! Part 13
So while you are getting your head around Gaijin Deafness we will take a brief detour to suss out more of the crazy stuff they serve up at Macca’s Japan! Not to mention the sometimes slightly crazy antics of the servers... Would you like fries with that?
On today's whacky Macca's menu is Japan's answer to international cuisine, presumably intended to pique the interest of the discerning Japanese burger pallet ... it comes in the form of the iCon four chicken burger range released around Golden Week!
First up we have the Cheese Fondue, a chicken steak bathed in a fondue sauce, with bacon, grated cheese and lettuce. Then we have the German Sausage consisting of a slice of bologna sausage, crispy but tender karaage chicken, mozzarella cheese, sauerkraut and a mustard sauce on a steamed rye bun... (not sure how I feel about the sauerkraut!) My German ancestors are rolling in their graves as I type...
Next up is the Diavolo! Spicy sauce with tender breast chicken, a toasted bun, bacon, cheddar cheese, and slices of lettuce (hmmm being that barbeque sauce gives me heartburn this could be a tad fiesty for bland little me...) And last but certainly not least, the Carbonara Chicken... with its creamy sauce with black pepper and cheese, chicken, steamed buns, scrambled eggs, bacon and mozzarella cheese! (See now there talking my culinary language!)
Now to wash down all that ethnically diverse chook, you're gonna need a beverage or 2...and rest assured Macca's Japan will not let you down, although there may be times if you're not in touch with your feminine side, when you may wish they had!
The blue Hawaii...may look like something you would find at a night club, but nay there is not a drop of alcohol involved just a lot of blue food colouring...very pretty I must say!
Not to be confused with the annual spring range of cherry blossom (or Sakura) beverages which are a lovely shade of pink...again would be typical night club fare but no, just the soft stuff and oh so delicately seasonal as only the Japanese can do!
Now with about 34 million thirsty people just in Tokyo, you knew pink and blue just weren't gonna cut it, so of course there had to be more options...so welcome the rest of the rainbow mango, blueberry, and melon! While they sound fun and super refreshing, if fruit flavours aren't your thing, then there's always the Coke or coffee flavours... Wooo hooo...caffine! Now your talkin...or is it slurpin!
Stay with me folks there is just so much more weird but wonderful stuff to be found at Macca's and it definitely not limited to the food and bev! To be continued...
