Bugger! I've done this backwards...

in #introduction7 years ago (edited)

So I hear most folks do their intro post first and then post a story later, but I was a tiny bit anxious (ok a big bit anxious), so writing an intro just seemed way too hard.

But finally after almost a year of very loving harassment from krystle and ausbitbank, reinforced by the urgent need for a new washing machine.

Finally I threw caution, protocol and steemit etiquette to the wind and yesterday I posted my first story on steemit, "Cultural divergence in fast food acquisition: Or damn, its hard to get a burger in Tokyo!". Having at last taken the plunge and posted a story I've been truly overwhelmed and encouraged by the positive support and feedback from you wonderful people on steemit. An extra special thank you for helping me secure the funding for the new washer!

Now I'm belatedly tackling the posting of the dreaded intro post. Hmm, I may have developed a bit of a problem (some may say obsession) with the word 'post' and all its possible permutations. Hopefully for all of us this will pass before the end of this post. Or not...

Now I have received very wise counsel from those in the know, (aka wakeupsheeps) that the inclusion of a selfie showing the date is a customary component of the intro post (ooops! there's that word again.) While I am not morally, culturally or politically opposed to this custom on this occasion I request a rain check. (See only used the 'p' word once and it was in context.)

Seriously, those of you who colour your hair, I need you to back me up here, I desperately need to get my roots done before I go taking a selfie to put on steemit. That image will be around for all eternity on the blockchain never to be deleted. Think about the consequences of that!

So I will get it done, please just bear with me for a while until I have time to get my butt to the hair dresser. All will be revealed as soon as I'm looking a bit more glamorous.

Now in keeping with the theme so far (reasons why I do everything a little back to front) I am after all an Aussie. So geographically speaking I am dangling off the bottom of the planet down here, so the blood does tend to rush to one's head and well sometimes there are unforeseen consequences... OMG now I'm fixated on the bloody washing machine!

Having made the general point that I'm an Aussie it is I think imperative to clarify, that more importantly I'm a Queenslander! (Definition: a person who resides in the Australian state of Queensland.)

We Queenslander's completely understand that we are (how can I put this delicately) supremely'north-east' of the average Aussie, who is so unfortunate as to be domiciled in one of the other slightly less spectacular states or territories of the south-west. Its a cruel and unfortunate punishment of nature inflicted on our compatriots, but they bear it well and we are supremely proud of them (except during State of Origin footy matches).

So steemarians, I will do my best to try and bring something a little unique and quirky to your community and I beg your indulgence while I stumble around figuring out how everything works. I'll try not to break anything!

In the meantime thank you again for the very warm welcome and while I hope to contribute regularly with 2 elderly parents, 6 children (ok they're all adults and only 3 are actually mine the rest are their partners, but I'm still taking credit) and 12 grandchildren it does occasionally get a little crazy.

So far today I have already accidentally deleted Part 2 of "Cultural divergence in fast food acquisition: Or damn, its hard to get a burger in Tokyo!", but hang in there I will try and get it up tomorrow before the burgers get cold.

I'm also from Queensland. And I totally get the hair thing.

Go Queensland and thanks for the hair support too!

@aussiesteem That is a great intro. I am a fellow QLDer and a newbie on SteemIT too. Its a great place to be and I will be following your posts with great eagerness. I love you use of vocabulary and fluency to engage the reader.

Thanks so much scooter77 and welcome aboard to you too. While we love to visit the rest of our beautiful country there really is only Queensland!

Go QLDers (Ive been held captive over the border for more than 20 years.. but you know they cant take QLD out of the Girl though hubby has tried desperately). I get the hair thing.. my selfes always have cap and sunnies lol no time for hair cuts or facials! Welcome aboard!

Oh no...maybe we should start a support group... Yep, 'Where else but Queensland!'

Welcome! With such a great first post, you will fit in here just right!
New washing machine here I come :)
Good luck

Thanks so much tomekkk, actually I've started eyeing the cocktail in that cartoon as well ...

So stoaked to see so many new Aussie Steemians even better to see more QLDers

Thank you... we may be a small proportion of the Aussie population but we are noisy lol

I see you're on the sunny coast as well.

I am, sorry my laptop had a meltdown lol

It is only appropriate that the creation of the story of the epic sojourn to satisfy the quest for expensive, unhealthy food in an environment filled with healthy, delicious, economic local cuisine, be an equally arduous journey.
As my hunger increases for Part 2, it will just make it taste that much better when it is consumed.

Oh so eloquently put @swenger, hang in there I'm on it...

Happy late welcome fellow Aussie - keep doing your thing!

Thanks heff! Hey I never thought I should have found a way to blame daylight saving!

I like the way you think, maybe bank that idea for next time you need an excuse!

Great idea. Daylight saving made me crazy when I worked in Perth. To participate in a teleconference at 8 am Sydney daylight saving time, I had to be in my office at 5 am Perth time.
