For this tutorial I will share with you how a pre-production artist and a background artist work together in the initial work process of every visual source that is supplied by the pre-production artist. The information from the artist is very important to ensure that each asset of production is according to the standard that has been fixed. The following are example for work that has prepared by a pre production artist.

The colour is not too strong because the important aspect that must be highlight here is the prop design and the positioning of the asset.

The Process

Now we highlight the work by the background artist.

Process 1 :

It starts with line art by choosing brush flatten. We start the colour of rust so that there is a feeling that the equipment are old. I use the mixture of yellow ochre, dard red, olive green and aqua blue. I start with a flat colours and I start building up on the form using spray brush. Then I come shadow by using using navy blue and dark blue through multiple layers.

In a dark room, the source of light is very import. The light from the laser beam is the only source available in the piece, hence all reflection from the floor and wall must come from the laser beam's source. I use aqua blue as the colour of the beam and I make every reflection of that lighting by using a mixture of the colour of aqua blue.

Process 2 :

In the second process it is more towards texturing and final detailing. To create a background painting I will not use heavy texturing, this is because I want to create a more cartoony feel (if there is such a word). I create this, I will use texture from the brush. After I am done with the texturing process, I will use the smudge tool to blend the colours on a smooth surface. This process will help so that the impact of the light on the metal and floor is more visible.
