Ophidiophobia?
Hello my friends.... Today I want to tell you about the irrational fear of snakes, this is known as ofidiophobia, some people with this pathology cannot see snakes even though they are from toys, some not even in pictures.
The first thing a human being usually manifests when having contact with these reptiles is the feeling of fear, or at least respect. If the snake is seen outdoors, the conscious decision most people make is to flee. According to studies, this reaction is normal, and it is not only present in humans, it is also present in other primates and has a neurobiological explanation.
But in the terrariums we meet people who do not suffer from ophidiophobia or anything like that, on the contrary, many lovers of ophidians meet in places like this.
The terrarium has a large pond full of hungry turtles. In the same place they can be bought food to give them and perhaps that is why they relate the presence of the visitor to food and they all gather together waiting for the desired supply.
Turtles belong to the reptile group, are cold-blooded animals and regulate their own temperature. They are one of the longest-lived animals in existence. They are oviparous and reach reproductive maturity at about 5 years of age. In the terrarium they seem to multiply uncontrollably every year, as I see many more on each visit. On this occasion I was struck by a very large albino that served as a "bridge" or "boat" for the smaller ones.
The green iguana is a lizard that feeds on leaves, fruits and flowers. As a curious fact, if the iguana is cornered, it uses its tail as a whip to defend itself.
One of the most striking species for me is the false Mexican coral. They live in desert areas but hide from the sun under rocks. Their hunting is done mainly at night. Its colors are very bright and unlike the others I saw, it has a less slow movement when moving. The rings of the fake coral are black, white and red, while the poisonous one has more black and white rings together. In case doubts arise, the wisdom indicates that the best thing to do when you see one is to distance yourself before deciding whether or not it is a false coral...
Pythons can also be seen, they live in forests and savannahs, have nocturnal habits and are not poisonous. They are constricting snakes, imprisoning their prey with their bodies until they die of suffocation. There are also the famous boas, among others.
The albino python can measure up to 20 feet and some dare to keep them as pets. At the end of the tour they have a small python outside the display case with his mouth tied so that the visitor can appreciate the musculature, the movement, the behavior and why not, take a photo for the memory.
If you don't have ofidiophobia, going to a terrarium can be an interesting visit. :)
