E' indubbio come le Olimpiadi di Parigi, per Cuba, non stiano andando di meraviglia, un po' c'era da aspettarselo, a fine giochi faro' un pezzo che sara' il bilancio di questa spedizione per la maggiore delle Antille.
Pero' la storia non puo' soltanto tenere conto della attuale complicata contingenza, la tabella che ho pubblicato indica le medaglie olimpiche, prima di Parigi, che i paesi del centro e sud America hanno conseguito dagli inizi delle olimpiadi moderne.

Come potete vedere Cuba, con meno di 11 milioni di abitanti, e' ampiamente in testa, lasciando ad una infinita distanza giganti come il Brasile e l'Argentina.
Ovviamente la quasi totalita' delle medaglie sono arrivate dopo el Triunfo de la Revolucion.
Fidel investi' anche denari che non aveva per lo sviluppo dello sport, Cuba ha raggiunto questi incredibili risultati col poco che poteva mettere in campo, attrezzature fatiscenti, atleti pagati pochissimo, alimentazione spesso non adeguata, pochissimi confronti con atleti di altri paesi, viaggi all'estero per gare internazionali ridotti al minimo.

Eppure Cuba ha compiuto questo miracolo, in presenza del bloqueo, questo occorre ricordarlo sempre.
Mettiamoci dentro anche una genetica straordinaria figlia della mezcla fra popolazioni di etnie differenti, le stesse che vediamo camminare per le strade cubane.
Non ultimo c'era il concetto di Patria, la voglia ma direi quasi l'obbligo morale per ogni atleta di sentire dietro di se tutta una nazione, ogni cubano ed ogni cubana.
La Rivoluzione andava difesa anche sui campi sportivi.

Questo ha fatto si, insieme ad allenatori capaci, che Cuba raggiungesse le eccellenze nello sport mondiale.
Oggi la situazione e' cambiata, il discorso ideologico non ha piu' la presa di un tempo, i giovani atleti sanno che la carriera dura poco e cercano di monetizzare, fuori Cuba, il piu' possibile.
Ci sta', e' comprensibile ma proprio per questa ragione le cose andavano cambiate anni fa, il volersi intestardire su concetti fuori luogo e soprattutto fuori tempo sta' portando ai risultati attuali.

Questo nulla toglie pero' al fatto che Cuba sia stata, e', e sara' sempre una potenza dello sport mondiale.

It is unquestionable that the Paris Olympics, for Cuba, are not going wonderfully, it was to be expected, at the end of the games I will write a piece that will be the balance of this expedition for the largest of the Antilles.
However, history cannot only take into account the current complicated contingency, the table that I published indicates the Olympic medals, before Paris, that the countries of Central and South America have achieved since the beginning of the modern Olympics.

Fidel also invested money that he did not have for the development of sports, Cuba achieved these incredible results with the little it could put on the field, dilapidated equipment, athletes paid very little, often inadequate nutrition, very few comparisons with athletes from other countries, trips abroad for international competitions reduced to a minimum.

And yet Cuba accomplished this miracle, in the presence of the blockade, this must always be remembered.
Let's also add an extraordinary genetics born from the mix between populations of different ethnic groups, the same ones we see walking on the Cuban streets.
Last but not least, there was the concept of Homeland, the desire but I would almost say the moral obligation for every athlete to feel an entire nation behind them, every Cuban man and woman.
The Revolution had to be defended also on the sports fields.

This made it possible, together with capable coaches, for Cuba to reach excellence in world sports.
Today the situation has changed, the ideological discourse no longer has the grip it once had, young athletes know that their careers are short-lived and they try to monetize, outside of Cuba, as much as possible.
That's fine, it's understandable but for this very reason things should have changed years ago, the desire to insist on concepts that are out of place and especially out of time is leading to the current results.

This does not take away from the fact that Cuba has been, is, and will always be a power in world sport.
