Is Hong Kong anything like mainland China?

in #travel7 years ago

Sorryyyyyy guys, I know I know. I should have updated my steemit blog. Okay, to speed things up, today I'm gonna write about Hong Kong. I went there a few years back during winter. So, yeah what about Hong Kong?? My very first impression about it is, it's a bit like Shanghai. Shanghai is a very modern city but Hong Kong is modern in an old fashioned way. It feels like China but there's something missing which I kinda felt like when I first visited Taiwan. But, this is different. The people are more persuasive. They dress well like the Japanese, very trendy and fashionable(most of them have the latest smartphones. I couldn't help myself looking at everyone's smartphones in the subway LOL), they have this sense of upbringing. It's hard to describe so. But one thing I can tell you. They are not shy people. A 180 degrees turn from the Japanese. I think it's normal if you see someone quarreling at the street. I recalled a scene one night when an old nanny just screaming and cursing his husband openly in public.( Okay I made that cursing up part haha, I couldn't understand Cantonese though hehe). For me,from my observation women in HK are very tough and you can say that they are very very very mature and a bit bossy oopsss. =p

So, HK is the Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. They have their own administration, money (Hong Kong Dollar) ,immigration etc. Simply put, it's like another country in a country. The other one being Macau. I wanted to go to Macau at first but I didn't have much time so I cancelled my plan.

Hong Kong has amazing public transportation. A class above. Now I know why people keep comparing our lousy public transportation with the likes of HK and Singapore. Even with the new KVMRT, I don't think KL can stand a chance. We need to improve our buses as well. Take example of HK. They have very nice and cool trams to maneuver into those tight streets. The buses on the road move all the time and I can't really remember being stuck in a traffic jam. One more thing that I realized is that there's not a single motorcycle on the road and the people in HK don't really cycle to go to work,play...I don't know, very contrary to the city folks in Taipei. The MTR(Mass Railway Transit) has been in business since 1979 so you know how big is the line now in 2014. anddddd their escalators are freaking fast!! I almost fell down a few times hahaha. They even have the longest escalators in the world(800m long) for god sake!!

The trams are very "thin" hahaha but they do the job.

Bank of China (lotsa banks in HK. Reminds me of Shanghai hahaha)

The cars are very spacious and clean. Very simple design I might say. But, it can get a little bit full sometimes. This is HK we're talking about. The city itself has almost 8 million people to date and it's not gonna stop any moment. Considered as one of the most densely populated cities in the world, it sure does well in handling its PT and making profits all year round! That's a standing ovation from me. After visiting HK, now I know why it's a prone to diseases such as the avian flu. It's a city and a harbor complementing each other. Ships, vessels around the world flocking HK like hungry birds. An outbreak in HK can be considered fatal to millions what not. Okay, enough with this scary H1N1 thingy haha let's carry on.

Lmao, that P/S totally saved your ass. One thing I know about HK people is that they hate to be considered the same or similar to mainland Chinese. Hongkong and Taiwan do not see mainlanders as their own people.

Yeah I notice that. Even Malaysian Chinese, Indonesian Chinese, ABCs etc. have similar thoughts. Thanks by the way!
