Song Of The Day: Pat Rebillot - Song For The New Man
Pat Rebillot - Song For The New Man
Going into synthesizer territory in my quest through 70s jazz. This is taken from Pat Rebillot's only album in his own name. Pat is mostly known for his work with Herbie Mann and as a session musician for artists like Aretha Franklin, Hall & Oates and Gloria Gaynor.
I think it is fair to say that Rebillot might have been inspired by Herbie Hancock in his use of the synthesizer in this jazz-funk context, Hancock's Head Hunters pre-dating this album by a year. Anyhow i really like the simplicity in this piece, and the sound of the synth bass. From what I've heard the rest of the album seems to be more conventional jazz-funk, with Tony Levin on bass and Steve Gadd on drums, I've been unable to find the album online.
