Following Your Dreams
I have had a love for books for as long as I can remember. Though for a long time I never thought that I was good enough to actually create my own stories. Around the time my daughter was about to be one years old I finally worked up the courage to try and write. I signed up for National Novel Writing Month (aka Nanowrimo which takes place in the month of November). I went to a launch party at my local library to learn more about it and wasn’t sure that there was any way I could write 50,000 words in 30 days. We had big plans as my daughters’ first birthday was to be during that month. We where traveling a lot as well. My husband even said you have enough on your plate if you don’t make it doesn’t mean you should give up.
What I found though was I met someone at the local launch party and we decided to become writing buddies. Pretty much we held one another accountable for our writing and where in the writing challenge we had written each day. For me this was a bit of a challenge as I also had to watch, entertain and take care of my little girl. So writing during the day wasn’t always something that I could do. As I’ve said I was traveling a lot with her that month. I worked it out that if I could write more at the beginning of the month I should be able to finish. Anytime I could get to my computer I was writing. I completely was writing from the seat of my pants, but it was working. There were days that I couldn’t write and days I wrote like I couldn’t stop.
With the birthdays, travel and holidays I was sure that I couldn’t finish (again at the time I didn’t believe in myself). My writing buddy pushed me and kept me going during those really tough times. By the end of the month I had written more than 50,000 words and was still not done with my story. As for being a mom I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything for her. We still had a great time doing all the things we would have done even if I hadn’t been writing.
Following ones dreams can be hard but so amazing. Everyone isn’t just one thing, they have many different facets to them. For me I am a mother and an author. I hope you find your own dream.
