Choosing an Illustration Style for my Children’s Book!

in #illustration6 years ago

I’ve finally done it! After SO many sketches and character designs just to find the right style for my children’s book I have made a breakthrough. The following isn’t concept art for the book itself (that’ll stay a secret for some time) but it is the style I’ve chosen.

My next step is the final character designs and then I can move onto the story board!

When I first came up with the idea to write and illustrate a children’s book there was so much I didn’t know. I have never done this before, so it never seemed like an option to me. I realized I was limiting myself, so I decided to try and fix that.

Instead of putting a stopper on my goal by thinking, “I don’t know how to do this, so I can’t.” I reworked my thinking to, “I don’t know how to do this, so I’ll learn.”

Needless to say, I’m still learning through this process, and there’s no guarantee of my first book being a success. But it is a very important stepping stone in order to reach my goal of getting published someday.

I can already feel I have so many more stories in me, so that means more chances of successfully getting published.

This illustration itself started off with no story at all but through creating it, it’s sparked another idea I can develope after I’m finished with my current project.

I created this piece in the Procreate App on my IPad Pro with my Apple Pencil.

Here’s some snap shots of the process of creating this!

I decided to completed nix the type of clouds I had originally sketched out and was very happy with these wiggly ones.
