Welcome back everyone. Today I’ll be discussing a brief history of Rolex’s GMT-Master series.

1940-1950년대에 세계는 큰 변화를 맞이했습니다. 비행이 크게 상용화되고 장거리 비행의 수요가 높아지면서 먼 거리를 운행해야하는 비행기 조종사들도 많아졌습니다. 장거리 운행이 잦아지면서 다른 시간대에 맞춰 계속 시계를 다시 맞춰야하는 불편함도 커졌습니다.
The history of the model dates back to the 1940-1950s, when a demand for commercial flights skyrocketed. With this demand the number of pilots flying in multiple timezones also increased greatly, and many did not enjoy having to re-set their watch multiple times in order to keep their watch accurate.

이 수요에 맞춰 출시된 시계가 Rolex GMT-Master 시리즈 입니다. 1954년에 Pan American Airways와 합작으로 처음 출시된 이 모델은 기존의 시간과 회전할수 있는 베젤로 두가지의 시간대를 동시에 보여줄수 있는 모델로써 많은 비행기 조종사들의 사랑을 받았습니다.
To fill this need for a watch that can show multiple timezones, Rolex released the GMT-Master series. It was first introduced as a collaboration with Pan American Airways in 1954. As the rotatable 24-hour bezel allowed a second timezone to be shown, this model was loved by many pilots globally.

초기 GMT-Master 모델중 하나입니다. 기존의 시간인 8시 37분과 두번째의 빨간 시침으로 20시 37분을 동시에 가리키는것을 보실수 있습니다.
This is one of the early GMT-Master models. You can see from the image that the watch’s standard time shows 8:37 and the red hour hand shows (a second timezone) 20:37.
