I kept on reading this all evening. Very profound... That's what poems are for!

Short but powerful - the sign off at the end nails it! I love the image of the 'unwinding inner being', it says so much about these temptations of the heart. Great write :)

Hey, do you have any banjo videos or recordings anywhere? I want to hear what claw hammer sounds like from you.

and thank you - appreciate your, as usual, awesome feedback.

Well, since you asked :)

Just spent the last half hour wrestling with my old phone and managed to extract a raw recording I made on it a while back - a cover of 'The Keeper' by Bonobo. Please excuse the shoddy vocals, haha, I couldn't find any decent playing I didn't also try to sing over...

Here you go :)

Clawhammer is a lot better suited to folk and old-time style tunes, if that's your thing. If you're after a harder sound then strumming or fingerpicking style is probably the way to go.

That was awesome! Thank you for letting me listen to your performance. Nice work. I hope to get to that level. What is something you wish you knew starting out?

You're welcome :) If you want to learn clawhammer I highly recommend the 8 Essential Step series on youtube - it set me up for life! Banjo Ben is also great if you want to learn 3-finger style.

I guess if there's one thing I wish I did sooner, it would be to stop using tabs and start learning songs by ear. If you play other instruments already you might already know this, but it's worth remembering. They're essential for the first few months but after a while just become a hinderance. When you learn by ear, you train yourself to play instinctively. Everything becomes a lot more fun after that :)

O man - I totally know what you mean. Like I was just fooling around and I figured out to get the same sounds as "Tool." and damn I was so pleased with myself. Something about puzziling it out. Because you may cover the song better than what the tabs might give you. It is addicting when you can play something by ear. Sometimes I will hear a strum/picking and it sounds like a song I know and I will just repeat that pick roll until I get it right. Now I have this little tune that I can incorporate into my own songs. It's great! I am all about the jam sessions! Need to sing my song and not get stuck in someone elses. ha ha
