Working Hard On My Garden. pt1.steemCreated with Sketch.

in #nature7 years ago

I had a horrible comment made by a neighbour in passing, and it stung a bit as I have worked hard in my garden to get it to where it is now.

He said "Do you use the top of your garden to dump shit? Because I have loads I can dump up there if ya want?"

Why would any one say something like this I have now idea, but I replied with a nice "f*ck off" with my middle finger up high to make my point.

I know I had let things slip, but I have had other things to do before finishing my garden, and with it been late in the season I was thinking more to myself to prep it more for next year ready to place my plants in.

But a comment like this got my motivation kicking in and I had to do something about it.

Up to now I had split my garden into two, put a pallet fence up and levelled the ground before grassing it, this has took me ages to do but it looks really nice.

The second half of my garden is my butterfly garden section this is my work in progress but this is what this guy was talking about.

Up to now I have 12 sunflowers in there which my daughter and her friend helped me plant, two buddlias and some flowering plants that I can't remember what they are called.

I know it looked a mess as it needed to be tidied up but with everything that I have been doing recently including mowing the lawn I just hadn't got around to sorting it out yet.

I took it as get your ass up and do something about it. so Over the past week I have, I have rotated the soil and added a border to the garden.

Work in progress.

I decided that I needed to break the garden into sections, So using all the white bricks I could find and a rake I started to make some raised beds.

I tried the bricks in different positions and found that a slant to the side made them look so much better.

While I was taking the photos I decided to burn some garden waist as it needed doing, this was all the stuff I had collected over a few weeks from in the garden.

I had already planted some plants in some wooden planters, I removed the wood and made some more raised beds out of bricks.

It looks like a garden that has been took care of now and I am so happy with the results of what I have accomplished over the past week.

This garden has helped me a lot, I find working on the garden so relaxing and peaceful, I just need to spend a fortune in plants now to fill the garden. haha. looks like I will be growing from seed as I went to a garden nursery and just for 3 well established plants it is £20.

I have to think about the cheap as this is not my house and the more I spend on it the more I will lose if we ever move. not saying we are ever going to as we are happy here, but you never no what the future holds.

Any thoughts on what plants I should add to the garden? pop your ideas in the comments :D

Looks like youve worked really hard!

For plants anything thats a pollinator. Maybe add some more bush type plants at the back to build up density and then wild flowers in front, buddlia at the back too maybe.

I was thinking lavender at the back for the first half moon border. But then got a little bit confused with what to do next i suppose its all about learning. 😁

Yeah definitely. Maybe some forget my nots, depends on if you want to plant is every year or aet more established longer lasting flowers
