How to Draw the Head from Any Angle - Loomis Method

in #steem-ua6 years ago

Hello my Steemian friends, I want to share with you my brand new tutorial!

Today we will go over how to draw the head from any angle. Admittedly the head is a bit complicated to draw and one should use a method to get things right. You can not draw a beautiful face if it is out of proportion or if the features are even slightly misplaced.

Master Artist Andrew Loomis created a method which is relatively simple, all things considered, and which can help you to draw the head and face correctly, from any angle.

I hope it is helpful to you.

The book I refer to in the video is called: "Drawing the Head and Hands" by Andrew Loomis.

All the best,

Leonardo

Hi @artistleonardo, when watched your tutorial, it made me remembered my late art teacher. He also taught us the same way as how you taught in the video on how to draw a head. But he didn't used the mold as you did. It really was a good tutorial for any one who like to draw a human head. This would be the basic to start off. But too bad, i have forgot most of the technique. Would it possible for you to show us how to draw body, hands, eye, nose as well :p? There were some basic techniques as well. And gosh, i miss all these days when i start to learn to draw human body in different position with such a basic technique.

Thank you for your comment Olivia, and yes, I will be teaching how to draw the different body parts and the body in general. By the way, in my YouTube channel "Fine Art-Tips" I already have many tutorials available. All the best, L

Thank you @artistleonardo, I will check it out. Are you an art teacher since you recorded the tips and on how to draw all the body parts.

Thank you for sharing this video, really love it I myself always have to think when I do portrait how to build up the features of certain face correctly, as you mentioned head is oval but not round but also the details of face have their own shapes and location that makes face symmetric or asymmetric, also we need to know exactly the position of face, from front which is easy one, side or ¾ which is favorite position that artists love to draw. Your tutorials are always very helpful, they are very good demonstrating how to make sketch simple, you always have some tips and tricks. What I love the most the results of the work I have done after your tutorials are really satisfying :)

Thank you for your comment Steff, I´m glad the tutorial was helpful to you.

Nicely done, @artistleonardo. I really like the way you explain things in your tutorials. You have a way with tone, cadence and words that makes it easy to understand and exciting at the same time.

You sound like you really enjoy your work and teaching people how to do it.

I need to do some major practicing with drawing heads and faces, by the way, so this was very helpful to me personally. Trying to be consistent so the character is recognizable each time is something that alludes me, but I think this tutorial will help with that, too.

Congratulations on a well earned curie, too. :)

Thank you so much for your nice words :)
I'm glad the tutorial was helpful to you. I'm following you now.

I have always thought that drawing rotros and manos is a talent from another planet, I love to draw but to make these two specifics complicate me a lot. I love your tutorial, I know more or less of English and even then I can understand your video perfectly .. it is very productive for the artists on the platform .. All your drawings are wonderful, I will follow you to be aware of your videos, I love to draw and it's good to learn new ways to draw. A big hug @artistleonardo

Loomis is THE bomb <3 He is amazing and this tutorial is amazing <3 Love the video and congrats for the curie vote <3

Thank you very much! :)

Oh my... you drew and make it look so easy as piece of cake. I tried following your steps but the first step alone with the circle is already a mess. That is what I really admire with artists like you. You guys can do amazing things just like a breeze. And the heads are really beautiful!

Thanks for sharing your tutorial here. Maybe this can keep me busy over the coming weekend. 😊

How long can you draw just one head?

Thank you, Colette! I'm glad it was helpful. It does take a lot of practice, even as you said, for the circle!
In regards to the time, I usually don't really care about the time it takes because the important thing is the result, whatever it takes. With practice, you get quicker, but I wouldn't be concerned about it at all.
So as not to dodge the question, I think the heads in this tutorial were about 5-10 minutes each.

5-10 minutes for the whole head is still very fast. I may still be trying for the nth time with the circle within that timeframe. 😊
