"Can a Pommie have a bowl?"

in #cricket8 years ago (edited)

This was some opportune footage from my trip to Australia. It was at a one-day game, Australia vs New Zealand, played at the fabulous SCG. It was the afternoon break and I stepped out for a cigarette. As I approached the smoking zone I noticed a large group of spectators.

It seems that it is quite a tradition to have a knock-about outside of the ground at half time and it was a spectacle to see. People from many nations coming together as human beings, absolutely love it!!

(By the way, I had had a good few beers and it was bloody hot! Otherwise, I would not have bowled this absolute turd of a delivery. So embarrassing and believe it or not I bowl for a team in the UK! Shhh, don't tell them it was me)

This next picture needs explaining a little.

Whilst enjoying the game(Cheering for either side), I kept getting some sledging
from a pissed up angry Kiwi lad, who had sat behind me with his friends(Who were all being fine with us all. Every nation has a dickhead)
Just after one of his intervals of witless abuse, one of the Australian batsmen made his 100th run(A huge achievement in 1st class cricket). I began taking a picture of this special moment when I heard yet another grunt from Mr Happy. It was at this point that I span round a said, with a hearty chuckle, "Let's get a picture of a pissed off Kiwi!"

Ha!! "I'll throw you over the fucking balcony" Was one reply. He did mutter something about following me to the toilet.... Must be a local-thing?

I love cricket.... thanks for sharing dear.....

Thank you...i like this cricket...best of luck...

Is this Aussie football? I remember seeing a game back in the 70's... Those guys were nuts!!! One guy was laying on the field- you could tell his leg was broken and the ref was yelling at him to "Get up and play on!"

Try watching Galic football mate. I remember watching it as a kid on a channel called 'Trans world sports'(I can't believe I still remember the name. I forget my own sometimes!) Now that is fucking barmy! Think rugby/football/hockey and a bit of amateur boxing lol.

It's the same game- Irish/Aussie- same rules (or lack thereof). Those guys were nuts!!! We had a game we used to play kind of like it we made up called "Killzum" The object was to get the ball through the goal either running, throwing or kicking. You could do ANYTHING you wanted to get the ball away from the guy that had it, but you couldn't hit them after they got rid of it... basically the same but we played in a gym

Lol "Killzum" that says it all. Sounds like the way football was played originally. Forget where it was exactly but they played it between two town I believe. One goal in one town and one in another and then just crazy-time in-between.
I'm a big boxing fan and the old bouts were unreal! 50 rounds +!! And some really tough guys. Beeston, where I live, was the residence of 'Bendigo' a famous bare-knuckle fighter. They have just opened a pub in his name. We also have the guy who introduced Olbus-oil to the UK, but he has recently passed away. He came here from st Kitts, or somewhere like that, with the hometown remedy and now it's sold everywhere!

I boxed when I was a kid- just enough to find out I wasn't that good. My game was hockey- I could skate like the wind. Those old bare knuckles boxers were tough, they didn't quit until one gave up... compared to them, today's boxers are a bunch of pussies!

lol yes they certainly are. Instagram athletes these days. "how does my hair look?" HaHa! Saying that I wouldn't get in the ring with Tyson. Chomp Chomp...
I watched a film about ice-hockey last night, it was a comedy called 'Goon' and was a true story about one of the guys who used to protect the other players. He was a monster! Such a brutal game but then you dance on the Ice like fairies. Watching it on telly, you lose so much. I have only ever been to one ice-hockey match and it was awesome. We have a very big Ice-hockey team called the Nottingham Panthers. Will have to go see them again. Were you not a big lad as a youngster? With you army background I imagined you that way. Your life intrigues me.

No I was a little guy- I boxed welterweight (147). Goon was funny. When I was young the average hockey player (pro) was 5'9" about 165. Now they look like football players 6'4" 250.
