Nepali Girl oil portrait sketch
Today, while browsing through my vast photo library, I have found the photo of Nepali girl I've made a few years back, in some place called Tatopani (in Manaslu area) and it seems today is a good day to make quick sketch from it.
I miss Himalayas deeply, it seems unreal and dreamy now - narrow and steepy mountain trails, villages with no electricity, people looking like they are acting in fantasy or historical movie (and sometimes acting likely!), yaks and donkeys, and, of course, children. In some areas they are already corrupted by tourists and they can run to you and demand "sweets, money, balloon!", in others they are proud and observe you with calm dignity.
I don't carry any sweets or balloons for them, insted I carry a few packs of color crayons - they are much mor interesting and children can draw with them on any surface, so I've paid my little model for a session with nice crayons, hope she liked them :)

Thank you! Indeed crayons probably the best gifts one can carry to the mountains. Baloons are polluting the environment and last for a day maximum, sweets are not very good for teeth, especially if you need to spend 2-3 days just to get to dentist and everything else is too bulky or heavy to carry.

Enjoyed this. I lived in Himachal Pradesh for a while, helped to adopt a Tibetan girl who, when she was five, walked over the mountains with her cousins and began life in India. Brave and spirited and loving. Barely 5 feet tall. She's a U.S. citizen now, teaching everyone by example.
You really capture her childlike curiosity at the world, very beautiful eyes and I love the skin tone and her bandana !! :D
