One of the most difficult things in life to do is to not let your emotions control you. At some point everyone does it, whether you admit it or not. If you think about it your emotions were created by someone or something outside of yourself. We experience emotions but we don't always know that they are there. When we become aware that they are there, we try to make sure they don't cause problems for us.
The first thing you need to do when wanting to know how to get started on controlling your emotions is to realize that they come into play at certain times of our lives. You cannot avoid them but you can learn how to manage and deal with them. These times are when we become inflamed, frustrated, sad, happy, tired, worried or even angry.
In order to control your emotions, you have to learn to calm yourself down and take a step back. Controlling your emotions means learning to turn off your brain and just stay calm. You cannot take on the world and your emotions all day long and expect to be able to stay calm. It just doesn't work that way. Learn how to handle your feelings in short bursts instead of letting them run wild.
The best way to start controlling your emotions is to take a break from the stressful situation. Get out of the room if you can. Even if you just have time to talk for ten minutes, stop what you are doing and take a few deep breaths. You will feel better and after a few moments you will notice that the anger or frustration you were feeling before has lessened.
