How Can You Accept an Appropriate Level of Responsibility?

Accepting the responsibility to lead your team and be held accountable is an important part of team building. In order to be successful in your role as a leader, you need to be capable of taking on this responsibility yourself. However, this does not mean that you can go off and absolve yourself of any consequences that may arise from taking on this responsibility yourself. You need to be responsible for maintaining your integrity, upholding your values, maintaining the high standards of conduct that your team expects you to maintain, and more.


Leadership encompasses more than just being a leader yourself. A true leader knows that they must know their team, what their team needs, and how they can best provide those things to their team. In essence, leadership is more than just a perception or a perceived ability. It is taking responsibility for your actions and holding yourself accountable.

Some people may believe that taking on responsibilities oneself is somehow less important. That there is no reason to take on additional responsibility, if it does not directly impact you or if it is not something that directly affects the work that you are doing. The truth is, though, that when it comes to the health of your business, the decision to accept and take on additional responsibility is imperative. If you do not, you risk falling behind, not meeting deadlines, being unable to meet goals, or simply having to deal with endless distractions.

When a leader takes on a managerial role, they assume the responsibility of managing everyone within a company. This means that the leader must also be able to manage their staff and the tasks they are assigned. This means that the leader must have the skills required to communicate effectively with staff, both on a personal level and in a professional manner. Good leaders know how to delegate jobs, how to get the job done, and how to perform a thorough and effective hiring process to find the best individual and team members for each position within a company.

Managers also have to be good at managing interpersonal relationships. In order to effectively lead people, they need to be good communicators and effective listeners. In addition, leaders need to be effective in motivating people and getting them to participate actively in their roles and responsibilities. A good manager knows that there are inherent weaknesses in any team, including those that have poor morale or low morale because of a lack of respect for the leader. This person also knows how to recognize these weaknesses in order to help strengthen the team and get them working together more effectively.

Accepting the responsibilities that you are being given is also an important part of embracing leadership. It takes an individual to actually accept the responsibility of their role so that they can truly commit to it and make it work for the benefit of the team and the business as a whole. A true leader is one who will exhibit great leadership skills in order to encourage people to take on responsibilities and to be responsible for the results that they bring to the table. People who are not leaders will not be able to do this, which makes them much less useful to the company overall.

There is no reason for a person to be afraid to take on responsibility. After all, it is an amazing and blessed responsibility to accept. There is no shame in taking on a role and being responsible for the outcome of that role. However, some people feel as though they must always be on the "go" in order to be effective at the task in hand, which is absolutely not true-people who really accept responsibility have the ability to achieve great things!


Leadership can be difficult, especially when people fear that they may fail. There will always be challenges, whether they are faced on the field of play or in their daily lives. Leaders can learn how to deal with these and learn to accept an appropriate level of responsibility. Once they do, they will be able to lead and to trust in the strength of their decision making.
