Mexican Handicrafts

Before starting to show the great designs that I was able to photograph of crafts of Mexican origin it is necessary to deepen a little in concept of craftsmanship and to discuss a little how to come to consider something as craftsmanship.

Since medieval times a division was established between art and craftsmanship this was imposed mainly by the artistic elites who dominated the cultural scene of the time. It also brought as a consequence a contempt towards ancestral arts such as Celtic art considered crafts or the art of the Goths which was also considered by the Romans as crafts.

Thus begins the disassociation and the ignorance that if a work of art is made manually a craftsmanship made manually. Now it is not necessary to confuse crafts with something handmade and that has cultural characteristics as to be catalogued crafts.

I know it's very difficult to understand but the reality is that all countries have developed handicrafts but not everything that is done in the villages comes to have an artistic character.

Mexico is recognized as one of the countries with the longest tradition of handicrafts in the world. Each of the regions has its own form of handicrafts, whether in weaving, clay sculptures, crockery, dolls, popular characters of Mexican culture. Some of the photographs you take of these crafts represent the most famous of all the sculptures and crafts in all of Mexico.

These traditions have lasted for more than 500 years, going back before the arrival of the Spanish invaders, the aboriginal peoples already made handicrafts. The logic of these crafts has to do with beliefs and at the same time they were used for different rituals. But what is most abundant is the gastronomic part.

In spite of the Spanish invaders and the genocide committed in all America in Mexico the forms of making crafts of different types persisted, in previous publications in shown how both the Spanish invaders and the United States when it invades part of the Mexican territory used for example the stone of the sun or the Mayan calendar for the shot to the target. This denotes of certain invasive cultures little knowledge and if there is awareness of imposing their culture and erase it at all costs.

the striking colors are part of almost all the crafts except for a black jar made with black clay which are few striking the rest are very acidic color is very tropical.

One of the recurring themes within Mexican crafts is death, aboriginal peoples have worshipped their cosmovision of death that is very different from the Greek vision where everything is tragic and bad. On the contrary the aboriginal peoples and aboriginal descendants celebrate the day of the dead with great effervescence and the festivities are motives for the sale of these crafts even up to corporal make-ups tattoos flannel allusive with catrinas for example.
