Poker Tip Man Armen- "The Turn"

Turn Card: The fourth card on the community board. The 3rd round of betting happens on the turn.

Playing Hold’em on the turn is really tricky because this is where a lot goes down. People bluff, hit their drawing hand, go all-in to protect their hand, improve their pair to two pair...etc. The turn reveals an add’l card after the 2nd round of bets that occurred on the flop. The turn card can change the perception of the game.
Playing the turn correctly is vital to your success. One simple example I'm going to talk about is pot control on the turn. For example, let's say you have As and Qd in late position. The player in UTG+2 position limps-in, the play comes to you and you make a 2 bet of 3X and go to the flop with three players (big blind, player UTG+2 and you being the third player). The flop is ace of hearts, 6 of hearts and 5 of clubs. The other two players check and the play comes to you. You bet 75% of the pot, big blind calls and the other player folds. The turn card is a 4 of hearts. The big blind checks. What do you do? In this scenario I will check because the turn may have completed a possible drawing hand; like a flush, a straight or even 2 pair. The board is wet, there are many combination of hands that can beat you. Even if you are ahead with a pair of aces and a good kicker, making a bet leaves the door open for your opponent to bluff. It will be difficult to call a check-raise with your hand and the wet board. It's best to close action and go to the river. This way if your opponent has you beat you lose minimum with a semi strong hand; folding is also an option if you feel the player may have completed a draw and they bet out on the river. If you are ahead you will most likely entice a bluff from your opponent on the river. It's up to you to read your opponent and make the right call or fold.

Playing the turn correctly is to close action when needed and to gain control going to the river, weather you are bluffing or have a made hand.
