The snake game.
It is a mysterious and fascinating animal, it arouses fear and admiration at the same time. It is perhaps the most quoted and studied symbol over the centuries by all cultures and is present in all religions. During my activity I have portrayed it many times, and I have chosen to represent it for the third illustration of my book of poems and writings on the existential condition of man and on the eternal relationship between life and death. How does the snake enter the subject?
We all know the story of Genesis or the first book of the Torah or Pentateuch where the snake enters the garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve lived.
What role does the snake play in Eden?
God creates Adam and Eve and puts them to live freely in the lush garden of Eden, authorizes them to be able to feed on all the fruits of the trees except the fruits of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, more commonly called the tree of knowledge. The snake starts its tempting action with Eva, managing to make her eat the forbidden fruit.
But let's see why in the 10th century a. C. a snake was chosen as the protagonist and generator of all the disasters that will happen to mankind. One of the most accredited versions is that the snake was an idol present in the cultures of the Canaanite peoples (Lebanon, Palestine, Israel and some areas of Syria and Jordan). The snake, already as a phallic symbol, in the Canaanite religion was the representation of the supreme fertility god called Baal.
So it emerges that in the period in which the Bible was written, preceded by centuries of oral tradition, the first conflict of religion in history took place, although we talk about rituals and idolatry. Discrediting the snake, as being cunning and subtle, but extremely strategic so that it can induce poor Eve into temptation.
It was necessary to discredit the symbolic figure of the snake, as an important idol in many lands between east and west. The snake then creates his trap by playing with words, and promising Eve that by eating the fruit he would have acquired the opportunity to open his eyes, that is, to get to know good and evil just like a god or divinity.
Eve offers the fruit to Adam, as a true temptress, acquiring a very negative value that will connote the female figure of ambiguity and hatred for many cultures and religions over the centuries. We all know how it will end, I leave you with a poem, and I hope my article has interested you.

of the snake kingdom

of the god

Who are you?
Snake coils
sharp tongue
promises knowledge
plays for life
hides death.
Writhes the mind
against the god Baal,
with cunning
gracefully
a dice trick
in the history of the scribes.
You remain Eva, no life,
but denigrated forever
in the game of snakes.
Il gioco del serpente.
E' un animale misterioso e affascinante, suscita paura e ammirazione allo stesso tempo. E' forse il simbolo più citato e studiato nel corso dei secoli da tutte le culture ed è presente in tutte le religioni. Nel corso della mia attività l'ho ritratto molte volte, ed ho scelto di rappresentarlo per la terza illustrazione del mio libro di poesie e scritti sulla condizione esistenziale dell'uomo e sul rapporto eterno tra la vita e la morte. Un dipinto graffiante ad olio su tela, dove la figura del serpente è dominante.
In che modo entra nell'argomento il serpente?
Tutti conosciamo il racconto della Genesi ossia il primo libro della Torah o Pentateuco dove il serpente entra in scena nel giardino dell'Eden, in cui vivevano Adamo ed Eva.
Quale ruolo gioca il serpente nell'Eden?
Dio crea Adamo ed Eva e li mette a vivere liberamente nel giardino rigoglioso dell'Eden, autorizza loro di potersi cibare di tutti i frutti degli alberi eccetto dei frutti dell'albero della conoscenza del bene e del male, più comunemente chiamato albero della conoscenza. Il serpente avvia la sua azione tentatrice con Eva, riuscendo a farle mangiare il frutto proibito.
Ma vediamo perchè nel 10° secolo a. C. è stato scelto un serpente come protagonista e generatore di tutti i disastri che succederanno al genere umano. Una delle versioni più accreditate è quella che il serpente fosse un idolo presente nelle culture dei popoli della Cananea (Libano, Palestina, Israele e alcune zone della Siria e della Giordania). Il serpente, già come simbolo fallico, nella religione dei Cananei era la rappresentazione del dio supremo della fertilità chiamato Baal.
Quindi emerge che nel periodo in cui venne scritta la Bibbia, preceduta da secoli di tradizione orale, si configura il primo conflitto di religione della storia, sebbene si parli di ritualità e idolatria. Discreditare il serpente, come essere astuto e subdolo, ma estremamente strategico in modo che possa indurre in tentazione la povera Eva.
Era necessario screditare la figura simbolo del serpente, come idolo importante in molte terre tra oriente e occidente.
Il serpente allora crea la sua trappola giocando con le parole, e promettendo ad Eva che mangiando il frutto avrebbe acquisito la possibilità di aprire gli occhi, cioè arrivare alla conoscenza del bene e del male proprio come un dio o una divinità. Eva offre il frutto ad Adamo, da vera tentatrice, acquisendo una valenza molto negativa che connoterà la figura femminile di ambiguità e odio per molte culture e religioni nel corso dei secoli.

promette conoscenza
gioca per la vita

Contorce la mente
contro il dio Baal,
con astuzia
con grazia
un trucco di dadi
nella storia degli scrivani.
Resti Eva, non vita, ma denigrata per sempre
nel gioco dei serpente.
