Installing Windows XP on a Canaima MG101A3 laptop [Spa / Eng]

Today we'll talk a little about one of my jobs, about computer repair and software and hardware upgrades.

Hace unos días llegó a mis manos una laptop Canaima MG101A3, mejor conocida como “Canaima Letras Azules”. Esta laptop tenía la pantalla partida, como pueden ver en la siguiente fotografía, adicional a eso se le debía instalar Windows XP por solicitud del cliente para usar una aplicación que sólo funciona en Windows XP, Windows Vista y Windows 7, pero debido al poco procesador de la laptop, lo más recomendable era instalar Windows XP (Cabe destacar que hice el intento, por diversos medios, de no tener que instalar Windows XP, sin embargo, fueron infructíferos porque hay personas que están tan acostumbradas a algo que se les hace muy difícil soltarlo de un momento a otro, así estén actualmente usando tecnologías más nuevas en smartphones o tablets).

A few days ago I got my hands on a Canaima MG101A3 laptop, better known as "Canaima Letras Azules". This laptop had a split screen, as you can see in the following picture, in addition to that it had to be installed Windows XP by customer request to use an application that only works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, but due to the little processor of the laptop, the most advisable was to install Windows XP (It is worth noting that I tried, by various means, not to have to install Windows XP, however, they were unsuccessful because there are people who are so used to something that they find it very difficult to release it from one moment to another, even if they are currently using newer technologies on smartphones or tablets).

El procedimiento fue realmente sencillo para mí que tengo la costumbre de hacer este tipo de cosas, de todas maneras, no nos podemos confiar por ya saber y debemos hacer todo paso por paso. Lo primero es SIEMPRE quitar todos los tornillos exteriores, incluyendo lo que se ven al extraer la batería y los dos que están en la parte de afuera cerca de las bisagras de la pantalla, esos son un dolor de cabeza si no sabes que están ahí.

The procedure was really simple for me as I have the habit of doing this kind of thing, anyway, we can't trust each other just because we know and we have to do everything step by step. The first thing is to ALWAYS remove all the outside screws, including what you see when you take the battery out and the two that are on the outside near the screen hinges, those are a headache if you don't know they are there.

Al lograr quitar los tornillos de toda la parte trasera, debes destapar el teclado con las palanquitas disponibles en la parte de atrás, las ves al quitar la batería y una vez hecho esto, debes quitar todos y cada uno de los tornillos que veas para así facilitarte el camino. Al terminar de retirar todos los tornillos (recomiendo tener un destornillador de punta de imantada y un imán aparte para colocar los tornillos, te facilita muchísimo el trabajo), usa una espátula o algo similar para poco a poco ir destapando la laptop hasta que logres quitar la tapa superior y te quede a la vista sólo la tarjeta madre con todos sus partes como el fan cooler, el disco duro, la memoria ram, entre otros.

When you manage to remove the screws from the whole back, you must uncover the keyboard with the levers available in the back, you see them when you remove the battery and once you do this, you must remove each and every one of the screws you see to make your way easier. When you finish removing all the screws (I recommend having a magnet screwdriver and a separate magnet to place the screws, it makes your work much easier), use a spatula or something similar to gradually uncover the laptop until you manage to remove the top cover and you have only the motherboard with all its parts such as the fan cooler, hard drive, ram memory, among others.

Yo tengo por costumbre quitar todo de las laptops, limpiarlas a profundidad y volver a armarlas para así poder observar bien todos sus detalles, también anoto todos y cada uno de los seriales de sus partes en una libreta personal que tengo, también les tomo fotografías y se las envíos a los respectivos dueños. ¡Sigamos! Dejamos la laptop en el chasis, literalmente, analizamos y limpiamos todo (hicimos lo mismo con la otra laptop a la cual le extrajimos la pantalla), armamos nuevamente, luego de habernos asegurado que todo quedo tan limpio como cuando nuevo (yo sé que eso no va a suceder pero se puede soñar ¿ok?) y procedemos a armarla para ver si la pantalla funciona bien, si quedó todo bien conectado.

I have the habit of taking everything out of the laptops, cleaning them thoroughly and reassembling them so that I can observe all the details, I also write down each and every one of the serials of their parts in a personal notebook that I have, I also take pictures of them and send them to the respective owners. Let's go on! We left the laptop in the chassis, literally, we analyzed and cleaned everything (we did the same with the other laptop from which we removed the screen), we assembled it again, after making sure that everything was as clean as when it was new (I know that will not happen but you can dream, right?) and we proceeded to assemble it to see if the screen works well, if everything was connected correctly.

Una vez comprobado que todas las conexiones están bien (me sucede mucho que no siempre recuerdo poner todas las conexiones donde van, jiji), procedemos a instalar el disco duro y volvemos a comprobar que todo esté bien conectado, funcionando y demás.

Once we check that all the connections are OK (it happens to me a lot that I don't always remember to put all the connections where they go, hihi), we proceed to install the hard disk and check again that everything is well connected, working and so on.

En una computadora aparte (obvio, Arlette, duh!) van a instalar Rufus (si es en Windows) o alguna otra app si es Linux o Mac (la que yo me instalé en Zorin OS no me funcionó y tuve que usar la laptop de mi papá para hacer el USB booteable) y realizar el USB booteable de Windows XP. Abajo encontraras una lista con los enlaces de Rufus, del programa que yo uso para descargar torrents y de los drivers necesarios para esta laptop. El Windows XP lo puedes conseguir sin problemas en Internet.

On a separate computer (obviously, Arlette, duh!) they are going to install Rufus (if it's in Windows) or some other app if it's Linux or Mac (the one I installed in Zorin OS didn't work and I had to use my dad's laptop to make the USB bootable) and make the USB bootable of Windows XP. Below you will find a list of links to Rufus, the program I use to download torrents and the drivers needed for this laptop. You can get Windows XP without problems on the Internet.

Nota 1: Todos los programas de esta lista tienen sus derechos de autor. Desde la página de cada uno de ellos puedes descargar estos archivos de forma gratuita, sin embargo, para hacerte el trabajo más sencillo, subí a MEGA los drivers porque no todos están disponibles debido a su antiguedad.
Nota 2: No logré hacer funcionar NINGÚN driver para la tarjeta de red inalámbrica en Windows XP. Si consigues alguno, déjalo en los comentarios para que nos ayudemos todos como comunidad.

Note 2: I could not get ANY drivers for the wireless network card to work in Windows XP. If you get one, leave it in the comments so we can all help each other as a community

Una vez tengas todos los driver descargados y guardados en un pendrive, y aparte tengas en otro pendrive el USB booteable ¡Ya estamos listos para realizar la instalación de Windows XP! El procedimiento de instalación no lo grabé (yo sé que debí pero por cuestiones de fuerza mayor, no pude) pero el resultado final lo pueden ver en la última fotografía (con la cuerda de Ubuntu porque uno es así, traicionando sus principios por el asqueroso dinero, jajajaja).

Once you have all the drivers downloaded and saved on a pendrive, and you have the bootable USB on another pendrive, we are ready to install Windows XP! I didn't save the installation procedure (I know I should have but due to force majeure I couldn't) but you can see the final result in the last picture (with the Ubuntu string because you are like that, betraying your principles for the lousy money, hahaha).
