MY LITTLE FRIEND SAY HELLO | Photo: @arfa

How I Came to Turkey?

I am Ariful Azmi Usman, born in Aceh, Indonesia. I am an Acehnese student selected to attend the HARMAN Internship Program (GIPUS-Global Internship Program for Undergraduated Students). The event was organized by Eurasia Turkic Culture Strategic Research Foundation (ASAV). Because of this program, I had the opportunity to spend August in Istanbul, Turkey.

Hi, my name is @arfa

When I get the info about the program, I immediately excited because the program is very concerned with my hobby and ideals, namely writing. As Imam al-Ghazali says, "If you are not a king's son and you are not a great scholar, then be a writer."

In the program there are three choices of areas of expertise, namely marketing, aviation, and journalism. The choice of journalism is what makes me more motivated to follow the program. Although my skills are not as advanced as those who are experts, I still try to follow the program. The only capital I have is a strong spirit and conviction.

In accordance with predetermined requirements, I follow the procedure; Create curriculum vitae (CV), master English, and meet other administrative requirements. Evidence and experience in the field of expertise should also be submitted as an initial selection material for interview considerations. At that time I sent examples of work that I have ever made, one of which is the most memorable is a photo ever published by Russian sports media. There are also some of my other journalistic works published by local and national media. I finally graduated.

I am very grateful to be able to bring the name of Aceh in the international arena. A sense of pride enveloped me, considering each country was represented by just one person and I managed to take the golden opportunity.

HARMAN Internship This program can be likened to a program of expertise and culture. Actually here we learn more about skills and culture, not student exchange like most other programs.

One month there was a short time, but much of what I got, especially in the field of Turkish journalism and culture. In Istanbul, I was stationed in the Turkish news agency, his name was TRT Turk. My daily life there is to be a journalist. Every Monday to Friday, I go to work and do the job of coverage there. Saturday and Sunday, I learned about culture and history.

This is just the opening article.

In this section I will post a photo on Hagia Sophia, a historic building which is part of our visit while in Istanbul Turkey. I hope for my steemian friends to give me more enthusiasm.

WHAT IS HAGIA SOPHIA?

Hagia Sophia (/ˈhɑːɡiə soʊˈfiːə/; from the Greek: Αγία Σοφία, pronounced [aˈʝia soˈfia], "Holy Wisdom"; Latin: Sancta Sophia or Sancta Sapientia; Turkish: Ayasofya) was a Greek Orthodox Christian patriarchal basilica (church), later an imperial mosque, and now a museum (Ayasofya Müzesi) in Istanbul, Turkey. From the date of its construction in 537 AD, and until 1453, it served as an Eastern Orthodox cathedral and seat of the Patriarch of Constantinople, except between 1204 and 1261, when it was converted by the Fourth Crusaders to a Catholic cathedral under the Latin Empire. The building was later converted into an Ottoman mosque from 29 May 1453 until 1931. It was then secularized and opened as a museum on 1 February 1935. Famous in particular for its massive dome, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture and is said to have "changed the history of architecture". It remained the world's largest cathedral for nearly a thousand years, until Seville Cathedral was completed in 1520.

The current building was originally constructed as a church between 532 and 537 on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I and was the third Church of the Holy Wisdom to occupy the site, the previous two having been destroyed by rioters. It was designed by the Greek geometers Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles. The church was dedicated to the Wisdom of God, the Logos, the second person of the Trinity, its patronal feast taking place on 25 December, the commemoration of the birth of the incarnation of the Logos in Christ. Although sometimes referred to as Sancta Sophia (as though it were named after Sophia the Martyr), sophia being the phonetic spelling in Latin of the Greek word for wisdom, its full name in Greek is Ναὸς της Αγίας τοῦ Θεού Σοφίας, Naos tēs Hagias tou Theou Sophias, "Shrine of the Holy Wisdom of God". The church contained a large collection of relics and featured, among other things, a 15-metre (49 ft) silver iconostasis. The focal point of the Eastern Orthodox Church for nearly one thousand years, the building witnessed the excommunication of Patriarch Michael I Cerularius on the part of Humbert of Silva Candida, the papal envoy of Pope Leo IX in 1054, an act that is commonly considered the start of the East–West Schism. Conclusion

While in Turkey, I see great and great Turkey. The people there also appreciate history. At first I was not a person who loves history. However, as long as there I really miss Aceh. They have made me aware of the significance of history and culture. They have opened my eyes to the greatness of the Acehnese nation, Aceh which is civilized and sovereign in its time, and makes me proud to be born as a child of Aceh. In short, they have taught me how to appreciate history and how to learn the true history.
