Kedelai (Glycune max) adalah tanaman berbatang perdu dengan tinggi 30 sampai dengan 100 cm dan membentuk 1 s.d 6 cabang biji berkeping dua embrio terletak pada pada biji keping dua itu. Memiliki susunan akar tunggang yang pada tanah gembur dapat mencapai kedalaman 50 cm. Bunga-nya termasuk bunga sempurna, terletak pada ruas batang dan berwarna unggu atau putih . Buah berbentuk polong dengan
Jumlah biji 1 s.d 4 tiap polong. Polong mempunyai bulu, berwarna kuning kecoklatan atau abu abu. Tanaman ini termasuk dalam family legu minosae dan menyerbuk sendiri. Banyak mamfaat yang diperoleh dari kacang kedelai, misalnya sebagai makanan manusia, ternak dan bahan industri. Tanaman yang berasal dari china ini telah banyak ditanam di indonesia,bahkan merupakan tanaman utama setelah padi dan jangung .
Iklim dan tanah yang cocok tanaman kacang kedelai.
Tanaman kedelai dapat tumbuh baik pada berbagai jenis tanah asal saja drainase dan aerasinya baik. Tanah yang subur gembur dan mengandung cukup air sangat baik bagi tanaman ini. Selamat bertani semoga bermamfaat
