VACCINES

in #vaccine7 years ago (edited)

Last Thursday my son had his 2nd dose of flu vaccine. The first dose was last month together with his other vaccines for 18 months old.

My wife set an appointment last month for his scheduled vaccine so it didn't take a long time for us to be called by a nurse who would give him a vaccine but while we were waiting for our turn, my son was running tirelessly inside the center which made his body temperature high so when the nurse checked it registered a slight fever. We told her that maybe because he was running before we were called so she let us wait from outside of one of the room clinics for 10 minutes, made his body relax before checking again because she wouldn't administer the flu vaccine if he has a fever. 10 minutes later and we were called and checked him again by the nurse. The result was normal so she administered the flu vaccine which was injected into his left thigh.
Letting his body cooled down to recheck again because he got is feverish.

He was sitting in my lap while my wife is holding his legs and he knew right there that he would get a shot. He knew right from the start because the moment we enter the room clinic, he cried even without seeing the syringe. As a parent, it hurts to see my boy in pain but it is for his own good especially with during this winter time.

While we were on our way home, my wife decided to go to Emirates palace but when we reached the gate entrance, the guards told us that shorts, slipper, and sleeveless are not allowed to go inside the palace. I was wearing shorts so we decided to just head home.

Controversy over Vaccines

Vaccines are a hot topic these days. There is dengvaxia vaccine controversy in the Philippines today. It is a dengue vaccine for dengue virus which is rampant in the Philippines. About 830,000 schoolchildren were already given this shot when they announced that dengvaxia vaccine should not be administered to people who have not previously been infected with dengue virus because it increases the risk of hospitalization of dengue or severe dengue. Who is to blame? They are still investigating this matter.

What do vaccines do?

Vaccines work by preparing the body to fight illness. Each contains either a dead or a weakened germ (or parts of it) that causes a particular disease.

The body practices fighting the disease by making antibodies that recognize specific parts of that germ called immunity.
Benefits versus the risks of vaccines:

One of my friends decided not to give their youngest child vaccine. She reasoned out that her eldest gets a very high fever since she was vaccinated with the flu vaccine. Us, on the other hand, decided to get the shot for our boy's safety. Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination. These antibodies provide protection against infection with the viruses that are in the vaccine. This will help my boy combat flu, especially during winter.

When you decide not to vaccinate your child, understand the risk. My boy was given Rotavirus vaccine shot then months later, he was hospitalized because of rotavirus, barely 2 days after he was discharged from the hospital due to flu. We were stunned because we knew we got him vaccinated with rota and still, he got this virus. I tell you, you are going to hate rotavirus if you see your loved ones suffer from this. High fever of 40 degrees Celsius, vomiting and passing watery stool almost every hour. His pedia explained that if he never got the rotavirus shot, IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE.

Worse?

My son was dehydrated, in severe pain, no sleep and rest, his butt was already reddish because of the constant passing of stool. I just couldn't imagine the worse if it's not with the help of rotavirus vaccine. I am glad we have him vaccinized.
