What did Biden achieve in the first debate?

Biden won the debate last night, insofar as such a spectacle can be won. From what I can tell, he had three main goals on stage:

1. Prove he's not mentally unsound or lacking in physical stamina (a lot of people thought he was either senile or simply too infirm to endure a 90 minute debate.)

2. Prove he's not temperamental enough to get baited into losing his cool and shouting back at Trump (during the primary campaign, he yelled at voters and interviewers multiple times, so there was concern he might have anger management issues.)

3. Prove he's NOT the far-left socialist that Trump keeps trying to portray him as.

And he absolutely succeeded at all three of those.

(Yes, I know a lot of the people will consider #3 to be a bad thing. But at this point in time, he has very little to gain from courting the left - some leftists will vote for him out of desperation, some will vote third party or stay home, and for the most part, both groups have made up their mind already - and a lot to lose by letting Trump drive a wedge between him and his moderate base. You don't have to like it, I don't like it either, but it is what it is.)
