Fares Shehabi 1 Stephen Sakur 0 Yes, the viewers will make their decision. Only an arrogant, disrespectful fool can believe that all the viewers are so foolishness to buy this kind of 'evidence' about the character of Fares Shehabi or all the fabrications to legitimize the aggressive invasion of Syria.
Sadly our experience with Western viewers especially those who get most of their news from the likes of the BBC, CNN, Foxnews, New York Times... Isn't a bright experience to put it modestly. They've kept their brainain function aside, which is thinking.

It's a simple process of repeating terms they have been already predisposed to - by suggestion (sort of like hypnosis - a suggestion is made that something is true and that all agree with it, until it is no longer questioned). The suggestions are tied to general assumptions which they've been made to accept by repetition, until eventually, even when evidence to negate the official version is presented, the host has framed it with these strongly adhered-to assumptions.
A big element is a psychological phenomenon we call cognitive dissonance. It's suggested repeatedly to the population that to hold certain views is socially acceptable, and not to hold these is not patriotic and anti social. Their self esteem is tied to their nationality and unless the official version is true, their entire self esteem is challenged. Challenging one's own self esteem and identity is very uncomfortable and entails dealing with enormous guilt for having condoned so many terrible things - so they embrace the easy lie.
Challenging the lie costs way too much in these societies. It's social and professional suicide to swim upstream - their jobs, family ties, friends, everything could be lost so it's easy to just hit the Facebook like button and alter their avatar to suit the national storyline. Instantly they're heroes like everyone else.
