Introduction

There is so much beauty in culture. Except if you do not belong to one. I belong to a rich culture here in Ghana which l feel super proud to share today. My thanks to you @nattybongo for bringing us the opportunity to share with steemians the beauty of our culture. All over the world, everyone is easily identified by the culture he or she belongs to. Elsewhere, the people are not so culturalistic but here in Ghana and Africa, culture certainly lives in us. You obviously cannot take a culture from a Ghanaian who has been born and raised here. I am proud l am dedicated to sharing the beauty of my people.

Ghana is a homogeneous state consisting of many different people with different cultural backgrounds. It is what sets the class of distinction from one person to another. All Ghanaians prove themselves everywhere they are seen through the culture they belong to. The aspects of culture that make people easily identified could be their way of dressing, the language(dialect) they speak, the food they eat, and generally how they behave. This piece of mine will hopefully all these various aspects of culture that make up an ordinary Ghanaian.
What then is culture? It is simply the definition of a group of people. That is to say, a description of people. People could be described by the way they talk, dance, eat and generally behave to the outside world.

My Culture

Ghana is made of different ethnic groups. All these ethnic groups have a peculiar definition of who they are. Among the ethnic groups in Ghana are Akan, Ewe, Ga, Frafra, Gonja, Ga Adangbe, etc. They all have all behave differently in the food they eat, their dance, their dress, and how they speak. But the great thing about all these tribes in Ghana is the fact that they are one people with a common destiny. Even though they have different cultural backgrounds but they still have one heart making them stand together in everything they do as one people with the same destiny.

I belong to the Akan tribe in Ghana. The Akan comprises many different sub-tribes such as the Ashantis, Akuapem, Bono, Akyem, Fante. They all speak the same language called "Twi". Among the Akans is Asante where l belong to.
The Asantes are believed to have been the largest ethnic group among the Akans making the Akans the largest ethnic group in Ghana. What makes the Ashantis and other ethnic groups in Ghana different from the rest is their culture

The Ashantis has a rich beautiful culture to share today. Their culture is demonstrated in their day-to-day activities. Meeting an Ashanti person is so easy to tell in Ghana. One of the basic things that define them is their language and the food they eat. Common food like fufu, ampesi, banku are mostly known by them. And they feel good about that as well.

The cultural aspect l am sharing about the Ashantis in the way they dress. The images l share in this piece is a true definition of who an Ashanti is. They are uniquely seen in these African clothes especially at public gatherings. They have these clothes and dressing not only because of the beauty of it. But in effect, the Ashantis dress with these clothes to tell their story.
These clothes and different dress types are designed with symbols that speak to them. Each symbol in any cloth tells a story and a message to people who understand them. This makes the culture of Ashanti so beautiful. It is believed that, the way an Ashanti dresses is greatly influenced by the event at which he/she may be at. Some dresses are not supposed to be done in front of elders. Unlike elsewhere where you can dress anyhow.

Instead of telling their story, the Ashantis choose to express themselves to people through their rich culture. A classical example is the clothing they wear and how they do it. A deeper meaning is derived from all the dresses from an Ashanti. These are usually seen at funerals, marriages, naming ceremonies, enstoolment, and other public gatherings. The dresses are accompanied by some dances which also come with a meaning. And so people see them be people who speak and express themselves in parables. I feel very honored to share this about the culture of the ethnic group l belong to, Ashanti. The culture of Ashanti is full of beauty and creativity. I hope to share later, some more aspects of the culture of my people. Thanks for passing by.
