Collection of my winter photos of Finland

in #photography7 years ago

Now for some photos from my own collections with wintery theme! These pictures are from various years between 2008 and 2017.

Talvi 2017 - 055.JPGLocal orthodox church and pretty much how high the sun gets in Finland in the winter.

Ice swimming! I recommend this for everybody. I recommend, first swimming, then sauna and when you want to finish, first to water and then to dry yourself. No sauna after last swim!

Christmas food. We have some potatoes coming, different kinds of christmas.. casseroles. Carrot casserole, liver casserole, potato casserole and turnip casserole. The most important part though is the ham, which is on the right. One ham is usually enough to start with, most hungry ones will have two hams.

Finnish gingerbread. This stuff is real good, even though it's even better as dough.

Once I bought 500 grams of gingerbread dough and tried to eat it all. I ate half, started to feel sick and threw the rest away. Didn't eat any gingerbread for two years.

Aww I love the light on the snow :D

I should take more of winter pictures outside, but I noticed on some years I didn't even go once to take photos outside in the winter.

Snow and light fit well together, as snow is always shining beautifully :)

I hardly ever go out to take pictures from the snow in the winter either. The last real attempt was years ago. I basically took one very long hike and many many pictures, which was enough for the rest of the winter :-)

I have to admit, I enjoy being inside at home in peace and it's rare to just go outside and take pictures, even in summer.

I should work on that and taking long hikes during the best days could work well and get enough photos for a long time :)

Things like this are what I don't even think about myself and I truly appreciate your comments.

I know what you mean, honestly, I should get out more aswell. I keep planning to, but for now, I've basically given up and put everything on hold, until we move to a better place. Just one more month now :-)

You're going to a better place? :D That sounds a bit wrong.. but you're moving, getting a new apartment or changing city/town/country/planet?

Haha, I am going to a better place. A different planet would be exciting, but for now, we'll stick with the cabin on my boyfriend's dad's property. It's in the middle of farmland, so I'll finally be out of the city again. Can't wait! I hate living in the city.

It sounds actually fun. I've lived my youth outside of a city and my adulthood in a city. I'm missing having my own yard and having real room, being somewhere else than in a city..

Good luck and hope you'll get to move soon :)

Cool! Finland is very close by its climate conditions to Russia, so I can recognise very familiar plots. Upvote and follow you!

Thanks :)

We have pretty similar climate conditions, depending a bit on the area in Russia.. Russia is such a big country and they have enough room for some different climates, but russians typically have a good understanding in what winter is - instead of many others.

Yes, for sure! Especially north areas. Sometimes you have to remove snow from the road to your house every day of 2-3 weeks lasting period )

And on worst days, you'll have to do it twice. Once in the morning, second time in the afternoon.

Still better than a winter without any snow!

Winter without snow is not a winter ) Snow is much better than mud!

It is very beautiful, thank you <3 I love the icy feel of the sky photos...
haha, poor snowman

I love taking sky photos, but I'm rarely outside during the best times to take sunset or sunrise photos during winter :(

Great snow pictures.

Thanks, I'm happy you enjoyed them :)

cooolest place on earth my friend always told me the stories of his trip to finland and i think Yes, it gets cold in Finland in the winter. But that’s no reason to stay indoors – just gear up right and make the most of the fresh white season.Depending on location, winters in Finland last from four to six months between November and April. Temperatures range from zero to –35. We can’t argue below –30 isn’t freezing, but enjoying the Finnish winter is all about dressing right – and dressing right is all about layers. Many are surprised by the fact that –20 doesn’t feel as cold as they’d imagined. That’s because the air is really fresh and dry. With the right outfit it is simply enjoyable winter weather.Still not convinced? Well, the fact is there’s no real winter without snow and no snow without sub-zero temperatures. And winter is all about fun activities in the snow. Now gear up and get out there! , such a great post here by you im feeling cold now here in Tokyo hahaha , keep visiting these cool places again and again man

If it's not a cold winter, it's a bad winter. Luckily most of the time it isn't -30 and -35, more like -15 but it's still cold for most people :)

But after being one winter in Finland, people can go back to Spain, France, Turkey or wherever and notice that their winter is not actually very cold. It's all about clothes and attitude.

yes you nare absolutely right its all about the way of living there and way of clothing thanks for guidence dear you add value in comment

Wow, beautiful. I'd like to travel through Scandinavia, it just seems quite expensive there.

Thanks :) It's a bit expensive but an unique place to be. If you can't visit Finland now, please visit later in your life! And you can try either winter or summer, if you want to come in winter, I'd recommend January or February.

It looks like some Russian dacha! :D

I don't know what dacha is, but hopefully something nice :)
