What are your thoughts on Whaleshares and WeKu and any other social media that somehow pays their users?

in #steem5 years ago

So.. I've been made aware of most of the other social media out there at one point or another I think, yet.. Have not personally found the time to sign up for any of the other ones besides steem.

I think the one that seemed most promising to me was probably Minds.com.. Yet.. I'm really extremely busy and I find it hard to justify spending time on another social media. But.. I've been hearing some really good things, especially about Whaleshares and people making some good returns. So.. I just wanted to sort of throw this out there and ask what anyone thinks about any of these competitors?

Do you think any of them might surpass steem?
Should I spend some time posting on any of these other sites? Or do you think they are sort of just passing fads that will likely fail at some point because of not enough users?

Minds seems like it has a pretty good community, it has at least one big name on YouTube promoting it and I've heard they are moving more in the direction of freedom and are trying to decentralize more.
Though.. I don't really know a lot about most of the other ones.

I also help run a contest here on steem and.. I still don't see a better social media out there, but if there was one.. I would ask our community if they think we should stay here or move elsewhere.. However.. I just.. Am very hesitant to try to spend too much time on too many different sites. I still think steem is the best even if I don't know much about all the other sites.. What do you think?

Someone did a test on whaleshares for bots, out of 3k accounts there was 1 bot. To me, whaleshares might actually be real competition to steem. It's very easy to sign up, @stellabelle has a guide for signing up on wls on her blog, about a month and a half ago.

As far as weku, I wouldn't bother.

What did happen with synereo ?

I looked at Weku, even got an account there, have done nothing with it, likely will not do anything with it, but then again it is a just incase place.

Whaleshares, I got an account there also. That was an interesting thing to do. You have to get a bts wallet to get an account, but unlike a lot of sites, they had a very easy to follow tutorial on getting it and setting up an account. I do have I think two post over there so far. A lot of people from here are on both of those sites. I, like you, still enjoy steemit. But the more I read and see some of the stuff from @ned, I started to get worried that steemit front end was going to die off, (not the blockchain).

Steemit is after all only a front end experiment to the steem blockchain, and @ned is working on and has a team working on a new access point to steem blockchain, or so it seems. He is calling it "Destiny" and and has stated that he will be inviting people to join it, while still remaining CEO of both companies. So you can see why some people are setting up "Just-in-case" accounts.

Just as a bit of an answer to the last paragraph (if I understand the possible concern) . It doesn't matter if there is an alternative access point to the Steem chain instead of Steemit. As long as it is still in the Steem chain, it is no different to using steempeak or busy or anything else. In fact, if they were to build a better condenser than Steemit that still was powered by Steem, that would be great thing! Everything in the blockchain would still be visible (and all your existing funds), however the condenser only affects what is placed front and centre of the user.

Yes, that is the way I understand front ends also. It is kind of like the old browser wars of years gone by how the information is presented that is already there. Right now a few other access portals charge a beneficiary fee, like esteem, d-tube, and a few others, I only use steemit so I am not to familiar with the fees.

I am not worried about the steem disappearing from my wallet, right now I do not know how to move it out of the steem environment, or convert it to some other currency, but if/when I need to know how to do that I will learn. Steemit will continue to work as is even if it is completely abandoned by @ned for destiny, or at least It will for a little while. You can still use netscape 1.0 to surf the web, not a pleasurable experience but it still sort of works..

What I see is more and more user fees wanting to be placed on the content producers. At some point it will be like the rest of the internet social media sites, you can play, we get paid from your efforts and you do not. I don't know what "destiny" is going to be from @ned he has not really said, but when he says he will be inviting people from steemit to join, sounds to me like the intent is to eventually abandon steemit.

If steemit is abandoned, then that condenser will shut down (due to no one paying the hosting and domain fees). The other versions need to have a beneficiary charge to support development and to pay overhead (like domain and registration and hosting), steemit doesn't need to, as they have the pre mine. You give doesn't need to as they can use ad revenue.

Steem is easy to move off into exchanges. Direct from wallet to bittrex and binance (deepcrypto8), exactly as you would to another user (but importantly, just with an identifier Memo that your bittrex/binance account will provide you with). Once your Steem is on the exchange account, you are free to sell/trade or covert further to an fiat on and off ramp.

Can't say definitely, but I will likely just stay with Steem due to lack of time. I will probably start off a whaleshares account, to connect the wls that I had due to existing whaleshares tokens.

For me, the most important thing is that Steem is listed on major trusted exchanges. This is critical, it is hard to achieve and ends up putting a real price on the token. Otherwise, you are not exposing the supposed token price to an organic market, so you can just say it is worth whatever you want...

I'm curious how the bot and spam situations will play out on other chains, if they have a price worth making bots for. At the moment, they remain relatively safe due to the lack of financial incentive.

ive been posting some over there and the interaction seems to be much higher than here unfortunately... I love steemit, i really do, i just see the competition to be a good thing... go sign up man!! Did you happen to receive any whaleshares from me from my contest?

I have joined both of them Weku and Whaleshares, I see nothing wrong with them, sure with a lot of new sites showing up constantly it is to be expected some of them will be duds, but joining some of them and having them as alternatives is not a bad idea.
