From cargo cults to human sacrifice...?steemCreated with Sketch.

Who is familiar with cargo cults...?
The other night I was watching a documentary on ancient sacrifice, especially human sacrifice.
And these cultures from around the world believed that killing and often consuming the lifeforce of humans and other beings was desired by their Gods.

So I started really thinking about it, and I'm thinking.. What would have inspired this kind of behavior? Not just in one culture either, but around the world..
Even in Christianity which is presents itself as more of a peaceful and loving religion.

I was thinking and this is what most people probably unconscious think or assume when the idea pops up.
And that is that.. Early humans did hunt, even though it wasn't nearly as much as most people think and they ate almost entirely a plant based diet.
But.. They did hunt at times, and they did kill and eat animals perhaps when they couldn't find enough plants to eat..
So maybe.. They anthropomorphized that experience and somehow equated the nutrition they got from animals, as.. A sort of spiritual thing, and extended it to humans.
You see a lot of ancient warriors wearing the skins of animals and collecting their body parts to wear or keep in certain ways.. Like they were sort of taking the power of that animal and making it a part of themselves.

That is the.. Typical, traditional, normal kind of response one might think or have in regards to such..
Though I started thinking deeper.. What if it was like the cargo cults and related to Don Juan's predators?

What if.. The reason early humans started sacrificing beings.. Was because they saw beings coming down from the heavens doing that first?
Maybe they witnessed aliens or God's or whatever, coming down and eating both animals and humans.. And then they figured.. If they offer sacrifices in similar manner, that they might be favored or blessed, or.. SPARED.... Heh.

Cargo cults are a heal historical thing where during I think it was vietnam, maybe WW2.. I'm forgetting, but.. Military went into really primitive areas for war purposes and then left afterwards and the natives there continued to worship them like Gods and build statues of them trying to get them to return.
Ancient alien theorists believe this happened with aliens and humans waaay back when, and that.. We built all these things like the Nazca linesand pyramids and such to try to get them to come back.
If ancient peoples are building all this crazy shit to try to contact the sky beings and bring them back.. Would it be so outlandish to suggest human and animal sacrifice had similar origins..?

Kinda spooky to think about! Especially if you ever read the passage by Don Juan.
He says they rear us humans sorta like we rear chickens and other animals to eat.. Maybe earth is like a big farm for beings even more advanced than us!
Maybe our cities are like farms for them, and they just fly down and snack on homeless people or those on the fringes who wont be missed from time to time.
Or.. Maybe they even help facilitate wars, so they can go in afterwardsand lap up all the corpses.. Or.. Maybe not even the physical bodies, but.. The spiritual energy.
IE, all the pain and grief and suffering.. Maybe that is their sustenence.. Maybe they thrive off of our misery. -.-

Going to include a link of Mark Passio reading the passage about the predators cause it's too long to post, or maybe I'll post both down below.

Don Juan On “The Predators”
Don Juan, the Mexican Yaqui Indian shaman, tells Carlos Castaneda the
following:

"We have a predator that came from the depths of the cosmos and took
over the rule of our lives. Human beings are its prisoners. The Predator is
our lord and master. It has rendered us docile, helpless. If we want to
protest, it suppresses our protest. If we want to act independently, it
demands that we don't do so... I have been beating around the bush all this
time, insinuating to you that something is holding us prisoner. Indeed we
are held prisoner!

"This was an energetic fact for the sorcerers of ancient Mexico ... They took
us over because we are food for them, and they squeeze us mercilessly
because we are their sustenance. just as we rear chickens in chicken
coops, the predators rear us in human coops, humaneros. Therefore, their
food is always available to them."
"No, no, no, no," [Carlos replies] "This is absurd don Juan. What you're
saying is something monstrous. It simply can't be true, for sorcerers or for
average men, or for anyone."

"Why not?" don Juan asked calmly. "Why not? Because it infuriates you? ...
You haven't heard all the claims yet. I want to appeal to your analytical
mind. Think for a moment, and tell me how you would explain the
contradictions between the intelligence of man the engineer and the
stupidity of his systems of beliefs, or the stupidity of his contradictory
behaviour. Sorcerers believe that the predators have given us our systems
of belief, our ideas of good and evil, our social mores. They are the ones
who set up our hopes and expectations and dreams of success or failure.
They have given us covetousness, greed, and cowardice. It is the
predators who make us complacent, routinary, and egomaniacal."

"'But how can they do this, don Juan? [Carlos] asked, somehow angered
further by what [don Juan] was saying. "'Do they whisper all that in our ears
while we are asleep?"
"'No, they don't do it that way. That's idiotic!" don Juan said, smiling. "They
are infinitely more efficient and organized than that. In order to keep us
obedient and meek and weak, the predators engaged themselves in a
stupendous manoeuvre stupendous, of course, from the point of view of a
fighting strategist. A horrendous manoeuvre from the point of view of those
who suffer it. They gave us their mind! Do you hear me? The predators give
us their mind, which becomes our mind. The predators' mind is baroque,
contradictory, morose, filled with the fear of being discovered any minute
now."

"I know that even though you have never suffered hunger... you have food
anxiety, which is none other than the anxiety of the predator who fears that
any moment now its manoeuvre is going to be uncovered and food is going
to be denied. Through the mind, which, after all, is their mind, the predators
inject into the lives of human beings whatever is convenient for them. And
they ensure, in this manner, a degree of security to act as a buffer against
their fear."

"The sorcerers of ancient Mexico were quite ill at ease with the idea of
when [the predator] made its appearance on Earth. They reasoned that
man must have been a complete being at one point, with stupendous
insights, feats of awareness that are mythological legends nowadays. And
then, everything seems to disappear, and we have now a sedated man.
What I'm saying is that what we have against us is not a simple predator. It
is very smart, and organized. It follows a methodical system to render us
useless. Man, the magical being that he is destined to be, is no longer
magical. He's an average piece of meat."
"There are no more dreams for man but the dreams of an animal who is
being raised to become a piece of meat: trite, conventional, imbecilic."

@apolymask,
This is the 1st time I heard about "Cargo Cults" and personally I hate to talk about human sacrifices, coz it makes me kind of internal fear! Probably a bad experience I had in previous life!
Anyway I agree we are the most dangerous predator in the universe so far! And in most of times human sacrifices were based on myths!
Great post and thanks for sharing with us!

Cheers~

Cargo cults often develop during a combination of crises. Under conditions of social stress, such a movement may form under the leadership of a charismatic figure. This leader may have a "vision" (or "myth-dream") of the future, often linked to an ancestral efficacy ("mana") thought to be recoverable by a return to traditional morality. This leader may characterize the present state as a dismantling of the old social order, meaning that social hierarchy and ego boundaries have been broken down.
