The Art of Empathy

"The Art of Being an Unemotional Buyer" by Jack Canfield is a quick and easy read that explains how the way we think about buying can actually make buying more difficult. As a child I remember my mother always heard about being an unemotional buyer. She believed that if you were not emotionally invested in what you were buying, then it was simply not a good idea. Although she was born into a household that encouraged this belief, she began to change her view as she got older. Today, she admits that maybe she was too influenced by the advice she had as a child, but she is glad that she has come to terms with that now.

Canfield divides his book into seven sections dealing with various emotions, then offers insight and practical suggestions on how to develop these skills. At the start of the book he points out that men and women differ in their ability to be able to recognize and interpret emotions and how to use them to their advantage. While both sexes have similar social behaviors, they also have different approaches to emotion. Men tend to focus more on the here and now, while women tend to have more emotions and feelings as part of their reaction to things. The key to becoming a better empathy giver or receive is learning to match these various emotional styles.

An essential skill to develop is the ability to feel another's emotions and what they are feeling. The art of empathy does not mean that you can simply know how to listen to another person and then expect them to understand what you are feeling or that you can simply tell someone how to feel. This requires that you become a skilled listener. To listen and then take appropriate action based on your observation of the other person is known as the art of empathy support healthy empathy. You will need to learn to listen carefully and accurately to the emotions that are being expressed by the other person.

The following section of The Art of Empathy teaches you how to engage and participate in a group in an effective and healthy manner. When it comes to building a network of people who share your emotional skills and experience, The Art of Empathy gives you guidance on how to engage in such situations. The Emotion Core Dictionary defines the word "empathy" as "the ability to recognize, understand and provide for another individual's emotional needs". Empathy is the basis of social communication skills and is the first step in effectively communicating with others through social media outlets including social media sites.

The Emotion Core Dictionary defines the word "empathic" as "having the ability to recognize, understand and provide for another person's emotional needs". The fact is that there are far more males than females who have not developed these important human emotions and social skills, which is why there are more, unemotional males than females in today's society. The good news is that you can change this by simply learning how to develop and practice the skills that are necessary to become an unemotional male and then use those skills in a non-threatening manner with the opposite sex.
