stranger things and the incompetent monster

I'm watching the first season of "stranger things" and one thing doesn't make sense: how incompetent this monster is?
I mean they want us to be afraid of it but how scary it can be when a little boy can survive in his world for days, so this monster can't smell be boy, can't hear the boy, can't see the boy. I'm pretty sure I don't need super powers or guns, I can kick his ass with a long stick.

you can choke him with a basket ball...
you can go to him while he is eating and hold smash his head...
he's slow, you can gun him down with a shotgun...
his head is all meat, you can cut him like ham with a sword...
you can poison him with a chunk of ham...
his bones look thin, you can break his legs with a bat...
I bet you can come with more ways to beat it than me
