Playing a Flag Football Tournament for the first time in 3 years

in #sports6 years ago
Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. To be honest, I prefer to win and learn.

Hmm, but that´s not how it goes, right? There is a lot more to learn in defeat rather than in a victory. At least that´s what they tell us, right?

Oh I almost forget, in order for this post to work, you have to check this other post out. It is a story I wrote more than a year ago so worry not, I´m not searching for votes here.

My life before becoming a nomad

If you were too lazy to read the previous story, long story short is: I used to play Flag Football in three teams at the same time during three years before winning the league the last year with two of them. That was in 2015.

Three years later, and now that I´m in México for the season I got in touch with some of my previous team mates and proposed them to get the team together for a last tournament, for the old days.

I searched online for a flash tournament - you know, those tourneys that are played in one or two weekends where if you lose, you´re out, and you play 2 to 3 games per day - and we found one, very far from our usual spot and starting quite early.

We got together again for the sake of old times, most of us are not fit or play sports weekly like we used to... we knew there wasn´t a chance we would win this tourney but we knew we were going to give our everything and do our thing: Play ball and establish our terms inside the field.

Most of the OG who won the season 3 years ago were there, only two team members couldn´t attend. But we still had an almost complete team, ten members: 5 for offense and 5 for defense.

Overweight, underprepared and definitely excited, we started the first of the two games scheduled for us for the first Sunday.

Who would have thought. Three years of playing together sticks with you and despite the bad physical condition we were in, I guess all of our experience playing the game - and playing it together for so long - was stronger than the other team, because we won out first game 34 - 12, which is a very dominant score if you ask me.

The second game of the day was pretty much the same, but we were tired and soar, we only won the game 18 - 7 which, again if you ask me is a great victory, especially considering we were expecting to get ran over in the first or the second game.

Two games, two victories. Not bad. Not bad at all. We got ourselves a date for the next Sunday, where we would play a third game that, if won, would get us a ticket for the final.

After playing team sports for the majority of my life - including soccer, football, baseball, voleyball and handball - I learned one thing: One game at a time. You are not allowed to think about the Final game for the trophy unless you win all the previous games, so we had to focus and get some rest during the week.

Of course due to my bad physical state and not so strong mental state, my legs hurted during the whole week and I wasn´t able to walk properly until the next Saturday, so I didn´t have a chance to recover properly or even get some training done and Sunday arrived again.

But I´m not known for backing down, nor do my team mates, so we rocked the game and won by just 6 points. But we were in the final game.

Guess what?

Yep. We also won that one and it was by a dominant 27 - 14 score.

We were Champions again.

We even got some Champions Shirt

Will we ever get together again? Will we ever play together? Is there another trophy waiting for me to hold?

Who knows. What I know, is that this is one of the best early Christmas Gifts I got this year.

Oh, thanks Busy for "auto declining rewards" on this post 😂😅

Lol, hate when we forget to change that! It is always great to go back and spend time with friends and family. It also gives perspectives of things that change against thise that don’t!

I know! But hey let this be a lesson to pay more attention to detail :P

That is too funny, I am one of the ones that was too lazy to read the old post, but as you were explaining it, I started to realize that I might have read it back then. I am not sure I had an account yet, but I think I was poking around Steemit. I could be wrong though. This is pretty awesome though.

Oh that's a great story, people actually reading stuff before jumping in the steem pool and recognizing the author, how cool is that? Also I fell honored :P

The honor is mine, your stuff is great! Not sure why it took me so long to get back around to following you :P

Congratulations on winning the flash tournament, age and experience won the day for you? 😆 how’d you all pull up after? 😆

You were number 9! You are in good shape! Do you also love soccer so much?

Yes! I love soccer a lot! What do you mean football took your father?

Excelente, siempre es bueno retomar el deporte, más si es con la compañía de buenos amigos. ¡Espero que no te vuelva a ocurrir lo de las recompensas! Un saludo
