Giving - Steemit-uyo Cares

The house was rather too quiet today, she thought as she woke up. Obviously her parents had forgotten her birthday and went to work without coming to her room. Sylvia, the girl who took care of her wouldn't forget. She got up from her bed, said her prayers and started heading down stairs to Sylvia's room.

No light! Today was really going in the opposite direction to what she had imagined. There was always light in her house and today, her birthday there's none. She turned to go back to her room when the lights came on..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Her parents, Slyvia and some of her friends screamed.

They sang her a happy birthday song and just as she was about to reply she felt someone tap her.

Wake up Blessing, you're going to wake the other kids.

As she opened her eyes, reality began to set in. She wasn't in a fancy house and she had no parents; atleast none she knew. They had abandoned her at a market three years ago where Aunty Maggi (the woman incharge of the orphanage she stayed) had picked her.

Today would make it 3years since she was brought here, and since nobody knew her birthday she had taken this date. Nobody would care anyways; except Deborah, the friend she had made here. She used to cry so much when she first came here that Debby had to sleep next to her and sing her a song before she could sleep. It was 3years now and she didn't need a song to sleep but Debby still took care of her like a sister.

As she cleaned the sweat off her face with the back of her palm she wished the orphanage would have visitors today, maybe they would sing her a birthday song.

Valentine's day is said to be a day set aside to celebrate love. Yes we all know love should be celebrated everyday...
However, we @steemit-uyo community will be using the euphoria of "this day" to show love to kids at an orphanage so they feel loved and appreciated. You can do same too.

Do the little you can. You might make a sad child's wish a reality.
