For Now, Pretend, a poem (original)
I never stood a chance
Always thought I had
Not a moment did I think otherwise
I needed you that bad
Always thought you as my savior
I smile when I look at you
A crease across my face
You do not need to tell me what to do
Say good morning with a smiley at the end
Brings joy to a stone cold heart
It was my restart and my reboot
I was doing it over from the start
I do not blame you or what you did
I made an assumption; the pain was on me
This might break again; wipe the smile away
But this I guarantee
While you are looking for the one
Let me play the game of pretend
I will act the fool and play the part
If that means your frown will end
I will be your head’s shield under the rain
To keep you warm while I go cold
The shoulder you will cry on
When someone hurts you, if they ever are so bold
I will stop your cries and make you smile
Not a day will I see you sad
I will act the fool and play the part
Because you are the best I ever had
I know someone is out there for you
But for now, let me play pretend
I will keep on saying this until it gets through
Because even though I like you, I am still a friend
