🌿Mushroom Monday

#mushroommonday by @balticbadger

An old Oyster Mushroom on a fallen Maple tree that came down during a gusty wind storm back in November last year.

I found myself admiring it's wonderful bronze appearance and couldn't resist taking a picture.
Oyster mushrooms and other mushrooms can grow very high on trees. If the wind hadn't blown the Maple tree over I would have missed it.

@annephilbrick pretty cool mushroom, is it edible? I ask because of its name and was wondering if it tastes like oysters.

😊..!!
@myjob
Oysters are edible. These are past there prime for me to personally harvest. They are frozen but one can tell that by looking at the picture.
:-)

@annephilbrick I could not tell they have been frozen, hahahaha.... Florida girl. lol

🤗
💕@myjob
They can still have the same appearance even if they weren't frozen. They are older Oyster mushrooms.

Oyster mushrooms are edible, and even more -- they are being farmed a lot and probably you can find them being on sale at the supermarkets. cheers!

😊
@qwerrie
I didn't know they were being farmed. Thats pretty awesome.
It would be fantastic to see them sold locally all year round...🤗

this is one of the Oyster species.

(imported; Chinese origin. but we have them being farmed and cropped locally, too). you can even do it yourself -- there are growing kits being sold at Amazon, @sketch.and.jam is growing some.. all the best!

🤗
Wow...!!!
@qwerrie
I shall have to visit Amazon and check this out.
Thank You....!! Awesome..!!
:-)

hmmm..... er... seems my comments resulted a bad thing this time 8-) well... see, I dont support Amazon and would not like an idea I am providing an extra ad for it... well, I can imagine some areas can not operate well relying only at the local stores ... :/
maybe @sketch.and.jam will come to share some his experience. I hope so. :-)

🤗
@qwerrie
No worries..!!
I will visit Amazon just to see what is there and get ideas. I sometimes do that.
I haven't done any online shopping.
:-)

GREAT !!!!!!!

Michiganmushroomco.com has the best kits so far, though i'm not sure they would survive the winter shipping up there. Most asian supermarkets have them especially the fat king oysters @qwerrie posted. I have failed at growing those kinds they are tricky.

@qwerrie Thank you, I live in Florida so I doubt if we have them, I was wondering if the taste like oysters.

ah! no I doubt it they taste like mushrooms. the name wasnt given according to the gastronomical criteria 8-)

@Qwerrie hahaha, I love it!!! they taste like mushrooms I guess all mushrooms taste the same.

your capture is very very nice!
this bronze appearance is really wonderful, and I also like very much to watch how did it aged. very lovely sight. thank you!

😊
Thank You..!!
@qwerrie
Much beauty and wisdom in age/aging.
:-)

Go back there this summer for a good meal. They usually grow early summer and fall especially after a good rain. The dead tree should be getting full of the mycelium.

😊 !
@sketch.and.jam
The cool thing is..this tree is down just off to the side of my driveway. It will be easy now to see if anything develops...!!🤗
I shall be keeping my eye out for that for sure..!
:-D
