What I have learned from steemit

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I have been on Steemit for 2 weeks and I am still totally confused and baffled.

If you are reading this post because you want some insights into the deep dark workings of Steemit, then I am sorry , I am not the person to help you. (partly because I do not understand what I read on it and partly because after all my school work is done for the next day and after I had class from 8-2, my brain is drained and partly because I do not have time and if I do have time I just want to relax without any technology)

I cannot tell you the price of steem or more about steempower or whales or bitcoins....

But I can tell you the things that I have learned in the past two weeks

  1. Patience is a virtue - even if you feel like it, do not just give up.
  2. Do not feel that you are less of a person because you are not upvoted (you may think you have written an awesome piece, but maybe people did not see it, or it is just not what they are interested in) - I am sure this will get better with time and more people will read your posts.
  3. Do not compare yourself to others - expecially not to people who has been here for a year or more.  This is not a competition
  4. Do not let the amount of money you earn determine your selfworth - a dollar is a dollar that you did not have and besides from the money you got the chance to write something or showcase your art or photographs.
  5. There are a lot of lovely, friendly people on the platform.

On the days I feel like giving up and wondering why I am on Steemit, I will read these points again and know that eventually we will all get our moment in the sun (the sun will maybe be brighter for some than for others, but nevertheless there will be sun.)

For now I will leave you with a silly poem

Steemit you confuse me

so profusely

I do not understand my wallet

it is not bursting at the seam

and I do not understand a lot about steem

but I will not go away

for you, Steemit, I will stay

I like to read the posts

I like the talent here the most

Such a lot of friendly people

each on his own steeple.

So just hold on tight

this will maybe give you a fright,

or a dollar or two

until then,  I say,  see you.

All I would say is relax. Just post and be happy. You don't need to know all that stuff to enjoy it all exactly as you say in your poem :0)

Love your name - In my language, Afrikaans it means master tree - I do not know from where you are but will follow you, cool name

Is Afrikaans anything like Nederish? It means the same in that language. People often ask me if I am dutch!

Yes Afrikaans and Dutch have a lot of the same words, but if they speak it fast, I cannot understand. And they have a lot of words in their language that is so funny to us and some that we actually see as swear words

I remember when I was learning spanish once I asked my tutor how many anos he had and he almost fell off his chair because anos and anós are two entirely different things! lol

Hahahah yes we can certainly misjudge ourselves in different languages

what a great post bro......All the points u have stated above awesome. Really I cant find a word to appreciate ur post . Whatever u have said is great mainly the second point since many newbies don't get upvotes even though they posted great stuff and off course I am one of those :)

Thank you very much - us newbies will have to stick together hahaaha. Following

haha loll....followed already :)

I know exactly how you feel.

So glad I am not the only one - I started to feel very stupid

Cool poem. Adding you to a list of South Africans on Steemit :-)

Thank you very much - you know what is the funniest - i have never written a poem - this one just jumped into my head and was suppose to be only funny

I enjoyed it - I guess Steemit must be inspirational ;-)

Must be :)

Followed, Upvoted and enjoyed. Thanks for sharing your poem and I needed a pick me up today! Like your post say there are days you feel like giving up and today is one of them. But, I know things will get better and I am in it for the long haul. Thanks

Thank you - glad I could help - I am very far from a poet, that just came to mind

Well it's pretty good. Keep up the great work @anneke

You're doing well already :)

Thank you very much

This is a great post anneke.

Thank you -

Twenty bucks for a post in a half an hour is nothing to sneeze at. But you wrote a poem, so I personally think you deserve it. I'll follow that.

It took me a month or so to get the inner workings of the wallet, and I'm a long way from having all the kinks ironed out, but I've settled into a pattern that works pretty well for now. It's a long play, and I'm just putting my daily work in for the future. Your advice on that score couldn't be better.

Thank you very much - I could not believe my eyes and honestly that poem just jumped into my head - I am a poet and I didn't even know it hahaha

Keep at it!

That was a great inspiring read, love the poem :) Yes, I think we will do good by remembering that this is not a competition and just focus on our own battle. I totally agree that there are so many great people around here who are so willing to share and point out the better way to get things done here :)

Thank you - yes I am amazed by this platform - it took my friend a year of begging before I joined and now I am happy I did

I am patient and my moment will come
