Learning to speak English fluently - Tips for ESL users (continue)
Yesterday we looked at a few tips that can help us learning to speak, read and write English with understanding. Today we will look at a few more.
Have a look at the video - first listen and if you do not understand a word, write it down, so that you can look up the meaning.
Watch the video again and try and say the phrases.
- It is good to read everyday - do not start with the most difficult book. Start with children's book and work your way up.
- Read articles from a newspaper or the internet and try and re-tell it in your own words.
- If you read something, see if you understand the general meaning, you do not have to know all the words first, once you have a general understanding, you can go back and find the specific meanings to the words you do not know.
- Try and find as many opportunities as you can to speak English.
- Sing along to your favourite songs.
- Find a platform where you can interact with others or comment on post, to practice your writing.
- Try and have fun while you are learning and do not be afraid of making mistakes. That is the way to learn.
- Believe in yourself and do not keep on making excuses on why you will not give yourself a chance to learn English.
- If you have an accent while speaking English, do not worry about it, most people have an accent. You will maybe just have to speak slower and clearly that people understand you.
- Label things around your house that you read the words every day.
Keep it up! If you take a break from speaking English, you will find that your level decreases and all your hard work has been wasted.
